Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Bagel Biter

Customer Review: Bagel Cutter Adds To Safety at Church Kitchen
Summary: 5 Stars

Slicing bagels is always dangerous. After you cut through the hard crust, the knife goes quickly through the soft interior. We have bagels at church most Sundays, and at least once, someone has been seriously injured cutting bagels. Often, a slice of skin is completely removed from a finger, so there's nothing to stitch.

The Larien Bagel Biter is reasonably priced. More importantly, it easily and safely cuts the bagels. We had other bagel cutter devices previously that the women in the kitchen wouldn't use because they thought they were too inconvenient or difficult to use. When I used the Larien Bagel Biter to quickly cut bagels faster than they could do with a knife, it then became very popular. I need to buy a second one so nobody has to be using a knife (except for the long bagels we still get that don't fit).

The Wall Street Journal had an article a month or two about bagel slicers, and concluded this is the only type that is effective.

Customer Review: Don't know how I lived without this!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love bagels, but am not very good with sharp knives, and every time I had to slice a bagel, my prime concern was not to have an "even" two halves, but to get through the procedure without cutting myself. I still have a scar on my right index finger from a knife wound I inflicted on myself when I was seven years old - yes, I was trying to slice a bagel, and this was more years ago then I even want to acknowledge. This Larien Bagel Biter is the perfect solution. You put the bagel in, lift the blade handle, and slice it. I wouldn't let little kids use it because there is a possible danger of their cutting themselves on the blade (which will happen if you don't read the very easy directions, but even they can be trained to use this wonderful little appliance. I am incredibly happy to have acquired this little wonder-machine in my kitchen. It's a vital commodity for bagel-lovers.

Customer Review: Best way to cut a bagel EVER!
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered this as a gag gift for my son, who is 15, and we all love it! He cut his finger, requiring a trip to the emergency room, while cutting a bagel with a BUTTER knife the previous year. I used this at a charity event when my family served refreshments, 100's of bagels! I would highly recommend the Larien Bagel Biter, and costs under 25 dollars, to any family which enjoys bagels. All four of my children can use it with ease. (Even the 6 year old with supervision.) Before my children would ask me to slice the bagels, to avoid their brother's past fate. Now they are able to use it with ease. The only draw back is the mess but when we use a bread knife to slice a bagel it makes just as much a mess. I rinse it with hot water and a soapy rag and voila it is back to use. I highly recommend it! It is a kitchen must have for a family with kids.

Customer Review: the bagels will run and hide!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought one of these after using one in the caffeteria at work. Then I bought another after my mother took the first one!

Possibly inspired by the French revolution, the Bagel Biter borders on overkill - but you can't question it's effectiveness. Drop in a bagel, drop the blade, start schmearing cream cheese. It's very quick, very safe (if you can figure out how to hurt yourself with this, you're too smart for that nonsense in the first place) and very easy to clean. It's nonstick blade should cleave every conceivable bagel in your life.

It misses 5 star perfection on account of messiness - its straighthrough design deposits crumbs right on your countertop. A crumb catcher of some sort would be the garlic spread on the potato bagel :-)

Customer Review: 3 years strong
Summary: 5 Stars

On average we buy a bakers dozen twice a month and use our bagel guillotine to cut all of the bagels at once and then freeze them. The blade is still fine after 3 years, safe for kids to use, easy to wash (one poster claims to put it in the dishwasher but I thought it says not dishwasher safe on the box and I haven't risked it), I hand wash after each use. It would be great if they had a way to catch crumbs, but it already saves so much time and takes a second to wipe up 50 sesame seeds. I love this product!
