I bought this trash can about 2 months ago. I love the way it looks, but it has some issues. First, the open/close mechanism is quite noisy. We ended up turning it off and just leaving the top open. But the most annoying problem this item has is the "lip" inside that catches on the bag as you try to take it out. Every bag gets ripped in spots. I find myself putting off emptying the can because I know it's going to be a hassle. So...although I think this item has some nice features, unfortunately the negatives outweigh the positives. I have been a touchless garbage can devotee for a few years. I ordered this one because I like the lid that would slide instead of fly up to open. So far I have not had lid problems like other reviewers BUT just try to get the bag out of it when it's full - ha! You need one person to hold the can and another to try to wrestle out the bag because it does not come out easily. The can seems to be smaller on the top than on the bottom or maybe it's because of the plastic rim inside at the top - regardless of why - it is a super pain to get the bag out! I wish I could do the video option and show you - but please take my word for it and shop for another model!Customer Review: iTouchless is a piece of garbage

After 11 1/2 months, the garbage can lid closed off-center, causing the hinge to break and become inoperable. I activated the 1 year warranty, paid $20 for s&h, and received a new lid. After NOT EVEN 3 MONTHS of limited use, the same exact problem recurred. This is a design flaw. I contacted iTouchless to request a warranty replacement, and was told that the warranty applied only to the original purchase and NOT to the replacement. Efforts to contact a supervisor were fruitless, so I intend to contact the California State Atty General-Consumer Complaints Division to file a complaint. I would not recommend this piece of garbage lid or piece of garbage company to anyone.Customer Review: iTouchless is not Painless

Well, first they didn't include the inner ring for the trash bag, no biggie, I called and 3 weeks later they sent one......
Now, it has just plain stopped working. Called, again, and was told to clean the sensor and wait 6 hours then turn it back on...... OK, 6 hours later - nothing. So I get to call again and then they will give me a warranty ticket. Quite frankly I am not impressed with this trash can. I guess I will let them send me a new one and hope it was just a fluke.
UPDATE: after waiting the 6 hours to let it "reset" it still didn't work. When I called back they told me they would not take it back OR replace it. I didn't buy it directly from them so "sucks to be you" basically. So the manufacturer doesn't stand by this thing either NICE!
I would now give this whole situation a -* if I could.

Exactly 1 month after the 1 year warranty was up, the lid broke. It just stopped moving, as if it came out of the gears. Then shortly after it just quit even trying (even with fresh batteries)--no noise nothing. Something inside just malfunctioned I guess. Paid good money for this but it is NOT WORTH IT. Save your money and look elsewhere.
Besides the lid dying, the design of the interior is horrible, as others have mentioned. When you go to remove the bag full of garbage, sharp tabs on the inside top (that are like a shelf for the lid) cut vertically into the bag in 1-4 places! Trash everywhere! Just dumb--didnt they test this thing before manufacturing it?
Looks nice and I really needed the garage door type lid as it sits under an overhang from the counter (so flip up lids dont work--and we wanted a lid). Sadly this iTouchless can has shattered my dreams.
Also, a somewhat more minor gripe: the lid is too slow to open--put your hand there to throw away some garbage and you have to unnaturally pause for 1 second.
DO NOT BUY!!
