Bought a set from Amazon a couple years ago. Never had any problems until my wife dropped one on the tile floor. That one was finished, so I'm buying another set and will have an extra. I've read the reviews and hopefully am not going to get one from the bad batch this time, but mine have worked great for more than 2 years now and I use them almost every day. The directions specifically state to only fill them about half way, and that may be what is causing people trouble. Even though you want to fill it to the top so you don't have to fill it as often, I think it increases the resistance and can cause problems, and I've followed that and never had any trouble. I definitely recommend these. If yours are like mine, you'll love them!Customer Review: Spicy fun!

We first tried these at a friend's dinner party, and immediately ordered a set as a gift and one for ourselves. You can grind the salt or pepper into the base, then measure it out (great for cooking), or take off the base and grind it right onto your meal. You can adjust the grind, too.
Everyone who's tried them enjoys them. A great gift and a fun way to salt and pepper your food. (Another plus: there's really no flavor difference between fresh- and pre-ground salt, but this grinder prevents the potential problem of clumping salt in humid weather!)

I'm sure if you spent $100 or more for a salt and pepper dispenser it would be the experience of a lifetime, but for those of us who just want some fresh salt and pepper on their food this is a good product at a reasonable price. I've had this product for a couple of months and the only quirk I've had is that one of the batteries occasionally pops half way out of its holder. So I open it, push the battery back in and everything's fine. The "grinding" mechanism produces even salt and pepper particles and the light is surprisingly handy.Customer Review: Great quality item - makes a good gift!

I bought these for my parents despite the number of bad reviews - most of which were years old. Bought in June 2009, my parents love them and have not had any problems with them. The battery life has been good and the light (when the mill is grinding) is a great feature! I suspect that the older grinders may have had a design flaw or technical problem. But I can assure you, that the new design/batch, are in perfect working condition. This is a great package. I own one set and have purchased two more for gifts and one more for a friend that just fell in love with it when they used it at our house.
These units work like a charm. The led light is a nice thought.
I don't care much for the small openings where pepper and salt is loaded into the container, but I don't load them often enough to be a problem.
They make for a great conversation piece, though some of our guests are afraid to use them the first time they try...
