Customer Review: Works great if you use it right

I want to second "A. Abdine's" review, which perfectly describes how to use the soda siphon correctly. Use refrigerated water to begin with, have the bottle chilled before charging the water, shake it at least 20 times, and let the bottle sit in the refrigerator for a while before removing the CO2 cartridge, and the bottle works great. The bottle itself is well-made and holds a full liter of water, even as limited by the "measuring tube" which comes as part of the bottle. I use "Leland" cartridges, which seem cheaper than the iSi ones because you can buy them in bulk, and the "fizz" is at least what you get in a Pellegrino bottle, though perhaps less than super-carbonated club soda. The siphon extracts every bit of water from the bottle, so I think the system works exactly as you would expect. This is like any other tool, use it correctly and it will perform as expected.
(February 2, 2011 Update) I'm still very enthusiastic about this product, but I wanted to add a couple details. First, if you screw down the CO2 cartridge too slowly, you lose gas as the bottle charges. Another reviewer suggests cranking your hand around the charging handle and then turning the charging screw in one quick movement. This works better than how you'd intuitively do it, but you can improve on even this method by holding the bottle in one hand, and the charging handle in the other, and turning BOTH the bottle and the screw, the bottle in one direction and the charging handle in the other. You lose almost no gas that way.
My last comment is that iSi is a really good company to deal with. They have a customer service number where real human beings answer the phone, and they respond to your questions helpfully. I called them to inquire why my 2248 nozzle didn't contain a small metal screen at the front end, while the identical bottles at Williams-Sonoma had screens. They said the ones fitted with the metal screen gave a "more forceful stream" and otherwise had no particular benefit. I recently had an opportunity to try one of the metal screened nozzles, and I found that customer service's evaluation was correct; the Williams-Sonoma bottle gave a more forceful stream and a big fizz when it hit the glass, but the result of the "big fizz" show was that the water lost gas quickly in the glass. It could be useful if you use syrups in the bottom of the glass or for something like mojitos, but I think you could do the same thing with a spoon, with lesser loss of carbonation. Both nozzles do have some residual dripping of water trapped in the nozzle in the form of bubbles, which is not a defect in design, but rather something I think is inherent in having bubbles that adhere to the inside of any nozzle until they pop, releasing a few drips of water.
