Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of iRobot 560 Roomba Vacuuming Robot, Black and SilverCustomer Review: As close to perfect as you can get Summary: 1 StarsI have had this over a year and just love it.
It goes very quietly about the house on the schedule I programmed for it to clean. It cleans our wood floors.tile floors and carpet and goes back over areas where there is the most dirt.
We have 4 lovebirds so there are small feathers, seeds and food they drop from their cage and play areas and it picks up every bit.
When it is finished cleaning it goes back to it's docking station and recharges until it is time to sweep again. It tells you when it has to be cleaned.
I have it clean in the morning at 8:00 and again at 6:00 at night. You can block it from going into areas you do not want it in by using the towers it comes with.I usually let it do the whole house but if I want to sleep in I set the towers up at night and it stays away from the bedroom. If I did not it would keep hitting against the closed door until it turned its self away from it..If I could get it to do windows I would marry it.
Seriously, you have to see it perform and see the level at which it cleans to really understand just how good it is.I have never had a problem with it at all and gave my daughter one for Christmas and she also loves it.
Buy this with confidence, you will love it.
Customer Review: my little helper Summary: 5 StarsI read all the negative reviews on this website and ordered the Roomba with some trepidation. We have now used it daily for two weeks and I absolutely love it!
The Roomba sweeps the floor all on its own, has no problem in adjusting from hard-wood floors to carpets, it even gets on area rugs without any difficulty. Initially it did not save any time since observing it was quite an attraction: would it get that crumb? yes; would it make it underneath the table, yes; clean between the chairs? yes; would it knock-over the candle holder? no! In fact, it approaches most objects with care and has a little bumper guard with a spring, so its gentle on furniture. It is not quiet, but much less noisy than a vacuum cleaner. After a while, we left it alone to clean and were very impressed that it docks itself back into the recharging station without any problem. It now runs daily when we leave and even our cats slowly are getting used to it.
Since the cats have long fur and shed A LOT, I was worried about cleaning the brushes. But that is indeed very easy and only takes a few seconds using the handy tool that is included. Also most of the wheels are easy to detach and clean, so the cleaning that irked a few people really only takes a few minutes total, much less time than sweeping/vacuuming the floor.
A great product, at least at week two!
Customer Review: A great product as long as you are prepared to keep paying out for replacement elements Summary: 2 StarsThis is my second, and last, roomba. Initially I loved them, and thought they were terrific in keeping my hardwood floors clean (pretty useless on the carpet, but I didn't much care because its having clean hardwood that I'm obsessive about). However, over time my attitude has soured considerably because of the high maitenance costs. First there is the short life of the batteries, which need replacing on an annual basis at a cost of $40-$70 each time (see all the reviews under "roomba battery"). On the Roomba website there are tips to make them last longer, but I tried them to no avail (although it does give them the advantage of saying "well you can't have been using it right"). The side brushes break frequently and I've replaced them three times. The power cord and docking station have been replaced once (at least that happened under warranty, but only after a very lengthy exchange with them). Special note: if you do decide to get one, you will generally find it cheaper to buy it and all replacement parts from amazon rather than the roomba website. I recently had a fascinaing exchange with their customer service - as a "special offer" to "a valued customer" they were going to sell me a battery at $20 higher than the branded battery on Amazon (even though they knew about the Amazon price). So I've switched to the Bona floor care system, which involves a little more labor but gives a better result, AND I don't have to listen to a noisy little robot taking 40 mins to an hour for each room.
Customer Review: JUNK - DO NOT BUY Summary: 1 StarsAt first this was a (but expensive) gift from the Gods while it was under warranty... In the first year of daily operation the brush assembly failed twice and iRobot provided a new replacement part and detailed instructions on the repair that even my mother could do. Outstanding customer support to say the least. Last week (18 months afer the purchase and ROOMBA is beyond the manufacture's warranty period) ROOMBA got confused; 9 beeps and shutown. OOPS!!! Customer support was contacted and they said: "no worries mate, this is a bumper failure and to correct it just spray the bumper LEDs with Dust Off to "fix" it". Did that.. Still NO JOY; ROOMBA is still confused. (GASP!!!) Contacted customer support and they said: "so sorry mate, major design flaw. We do not fix this flaw nor do we have a repair center. (me - HUH???), BUT, we can sell you a new replacement ROOMBA for $379 or a repair kit for $129". At this point I said: "are you saying that this is a design flaw that you are aware of and there has been no product recall?". Coustomer support's response was: "hold on, let me do some research". After 5 minutes they came back and said: "we do have a "slimmed down repair kit" for $79 and can we have a credit card number and shipping address"? While I was on hold for the "research" I GOOGLED "9 beep ROOMBA". What I learned was that iRobot has a $25 repair Kit (huh???) that unless you are an engineer (which I am) is next to impossible to install. My response to customer support was: "I'll get back to you". DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. I hope this review is helpful.
Customer Review: Doesn't handle hair well. Summary: 3 StarsI've had mine roomba for almost two years. My home is completely hard surface floors and I think the roomba is perfect for this task (as a "sweeper", not as a vacuum). I am glad I have this machine and I would buy it again, BUT I have replaced nearly EVERY part on it over the course of the past two years. Thankfully, I purchased mine at Costco and all of the parts I have had to replace have been handled under the excellent Costco/iRobot warranty. Still, this level of maintenance/parts replacement is not what I was expecting and lowers my "value" perception significantly. I would say that the main cause for all this wear and tear is hair. Human hair and pet hair alike. If I did not have the better warranty (free with purchase at Costco), I would give this machine a lower rating due to the frequent and significant expense of replacement parts. However, having said all of this, I will likely be purchasing a new Roomba (at Costco) to replace this one soon. And yes, the old one can be returned for full credit.
