Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of ZeroWater ZR-006 Replacement Filter, 4-PackCustomer Review: Going out of business Summary: 2 Stars
I guess Amazon is one of the few places you can get these now? I went to Target, where I usually buy these, and not one store in the entire county (of like 10 million people) had a Zero Water filter. Not one.
Coupled with the trend that this product has been taking in terms of decreasing quality, I wonder if this product will even continue to be available.
What I mean is, I have noticed a distinct degradation in the quality of their packaging and product over time. When I first bought my pitcher, the boxes were sealed with tape, the styrofoam filter packaging was sealed, and the filters themselves had a seal over the top, and a sticker on the side about the product. All of these were high quality, easily removed.
First, the tape around the styrofoam disappeared. I tried several different stores for these, still no tape. Then, the tape sealing the box itself was gone. So now, you have a product that isn't even sealed, but at least the filters themselves had something. Then, even that disappeared, along with the sticker on the side of each filter. There's nothing stopping someone from going in, opening the product, and tampering with it - you'd never even know. This is with every single order of these things in the past 6 months. Not to mention that 4 holes started appearing on the top of every filter - possibly because of customer complaints about the slowness of the filtration?
Also, the price has increased significantly since they first came out. You could get the 2 pack for $19.99, then it went up to $24.99, then $29.99 (at Target), but Amazon has them for $34.99. Why the huge price increase? This product hasn't even been around for more a couple of years, and none of the other filter/pitcher companies are increasing prices like this.
It's a decent product, a filter that needs replacing every 2 weeks or so (with one heavy water drinker in the house), but I'm worried about the company. If you haven't already bought a pitcher and thus have committed to the investment, I wouldn't bother picking up a Zero Water pitcher. I don't think the product will be available for much longer.
Everything about this product (and the pitcher) said "cheap" from the very start. The construction of the pitcher, the way the filters were sold, everything. I guess this trend is just them getting cheaper and cheaper on quality, but increasing price.
It's too bad I need a filter, because my city's water was voted in the top 10 worst water quality in the US. Ugh.
Customer Review: It's Just Too Expensive Summary: 2 Stars
The water taste great as long as you keep the water cooler on. Otherwise it tastes funky. The tap water measured >200 on the meter but no foul taste. The spring water (bottled) measured 26 on the meter but works out cheaper than zero water.
I changed to zero water over concerns of BPA bottling & chemical leaks into the water but I'm not too sure this isn't the same thing. If water companies get rid of the BPA bottles I'd definitely go back. It would be great if zero water used only one canister and it got you the same amount of gallons would make it ideal. Hopefully, the price can come down to half - it would be worth it.
Customer Review: Filters don't last more than two weeks! Summary: 2 Stars
ZeroWater tastes good for about two weeks. Then, it starts stinking and you have to change the filter already. Not worth the cost...way more expensive than just buying bottled water.
Customer Review: Way overpriced, doesn't last long Summary: 1 Stars
ZeroWater needs to figure our how to reduce the pricing on these -- whether it is rationalizing product costs or adjusting their pricing policy. At this point, for a lot of users, this is no cheaper than buying gallons of distilled or spring water from Walmart. And while it saves you the trouble of having to carry home gallon containers of water, it makes you fill and pitcher twice a day (or more) and then wait for the water to pass through the filter. This is a hassle, and there really is not financial incentive to endure that hassle. Just opening a new gallon of bottled water is much faster and easier. The product works OK, but just doesn't last long at all making is expensive. With the cost of these over 3 months, you could have bought a good reverse osmosis system with filter cartridges that are not only cheaper but last a whole lot longer. Make you choice and pay your money, but I suspect until ZeroWater gets their pricing down to a reasonable level, they are not going to be a feasible option for a lot of people.
Customer Review: Did I get Pheebie's Defective Filters? Summary: 1 Stars
Amazon typically provides great service/products/prices, but with this order they blew it! I've used a Zero Water pitcher nonstop for the past year+, obtaining replacement filters locally. However, I decided to order a "Replacement Filter, 4 pk" from Amazon, to save myself some time/money. I immediately called Customer Service when the order arrrived yesterday - the ZeroWater box was not sealed, nor were the filters! Carylin was extremely helpful, and sent me a replacement order, which arrived this afternoon. The outer brown packing box was crumpled, but the product box was OK. However, it was not sealed, nor were the filters....and just like Pheebie pointed out, I found the 4 holes punched in the filter tops. Amazon sent me defective merchandise, and not just once... but TWICE!!!
