Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of ZeroWater ZR-006 Replacement Filter, 4-PackCustomer Review: Zero Water not as bad as some say Summary: 4 Stars
I have found Zero Water filters to be much better than many on Amazon have said. Read my other reviews. I say the truth as I see it and am not a fake reviewer for companies. I have used the filters for some time. The 4 stars are for the price of the filters and the fact that as far as I know they still have no antibacterial protection. This may account for the bad taste some people have reported. I can't say as this has never happened for me. It may also be fake negative reviews from competitors. It should not even be a problem for city water systems. Well water users should wait until antibacterial protection is added or do as I do and combine this with a filtration system that has antibacterial protection. I do this for 2 reasons. Some city water systems do not protect against the hardest to kill pathogens and I usually don't want completely mineral free water to drink. Completely mineral free water is actually unhealthy for drinking. I only use the de-mineralized water for watering plants in pots without drainage and using in things like steam irons. I haven't used it for battery water because it could still have chemicals in it that would be bad for a battery. I haven't found an analysis for what is or might be left behind. All electrolytes are removed but any ion exchange filter has to replace what is removed with something. I don't know what that might be here.
All in all, it is a good way to get de-mineralized water with having to go to the store and having plastic bottles get put in landfills. I live in an area and state that doesn't think anything needs to be recycled or that plastic clogged landfills are a real issue.
Customer Review: Perfect water, but filters need improvement Summary: 4 Stars
My wife and I have been using the ZeroWater filter system for about a year, and we have thoroughly enjoyed how clean the water tastes. It's much better than bottled water, which tastes of plastic. In Houston, our filters last about a month. That period depends greatly on the quality of the water out of the tap, which varies widely. I suspect complaints from other uses relate to the quality of the tap water in their locale and, maybe, to the following:
The one shortcoming of the system is the way the filters are manufactured. The outside shell is obviously created using a two-piece mold for the threads. When the mold is removed, it leaves two ridges that run from the top to the flange where the ring washer rests. The ridges interfere with the washer's sealing, allowing water in the top reservoir to drip into the reservoir for the filtered water. To correct the problem, I use a knife to trim the ridges at the flange and then screw the filter on as tightly as I can. Unfortunately, it sometimes takes quite a bit of work to prevent water's leaking past the seal. In a proper manufacturing process, that shouldn't be necessary. The manufacturer could easily sand or file the ridge off the flange and buff it until the surface is completely smooth.
But for that shortcoming, I would have given this product an unqualified 5-star rating.
Customer Review: Pricey But Worth It Summary: 4 Stars
Yes, the filters are expensive, but our water here is AWFUL. Measured almost 475 at times, more than twice the national average of bad stuff. I used to use gallon containers at a fill-it-yourself machine, but often they were broken down and it was a huge hassle. If you want to see the water measure at zero when replacing an existing filter, you have to get rid of the older water which has become more than zero. I've let mine get to 100 before changing and it's still been a vast improvement over non-filtered water. I am single, so I don't use tons of water. I use about a filter per month. This is way cheaper than a bottled water service and I don't have to use a cooler or find storage for bottles.
Customer Review: Zero Water Filters Summary: 4 Stars
I have been using my Zero Water pitcher and filters for about 9 months. Where I live the water has a chemical taste and this pitcher and filters have made the water enjoyable. The filters are expensive and I have had to call Zero Water on several occassions as the filter would not allow the water thru, one of the suggestions they gave me was to take a toothpick and press a few holes on the top of the filter. This idea worked once and another time Zero Water had to replace the filters and sent them free of charge. The Zero Water definetly works better than when I used Brita.
Customer Review: ZeroWater Beats Using 5-Gallon Bottles Summary: 4 Stars
Having lugged 5-gallon water bottles for many years, the ZeroWater system has been a Godsend. We use the larger ZeroWater 2-part container on top of the same watercooler that used the large 5-gallon bottles. That water tastes great and is crystal-clear. My only complaint is the cost of the filters. Brookstone sold the 4-pak for $29.99 last year, but it's up to $52.99 now which is only a bit cheaper than Home Depot's $60.00 price. If it weren't for that high cost, I would have rated the water filtration system 5 stars.
