Customer Review: Indispensable for my Kitchen

Most every chef will tell you that the most important tool in the kitchen is a good knife. However, no knife stays "good" very long without proper sharpening. Most real chefs swear by their whetstone that they sharpen at their estimated angle. This is great for them, and maybe it is the best way to preserve the blade of the knife, but I've been using this sharpener for years on my Global and Wusthof knives and it is:
1) Fast (meaning I don't avoid the chore at all)
2) Razor sharp (best way to tell this is slicing tomatoes)
3) Small, easily fitting in my kitchen drawer
4) Not expensive
Perhaps it does shorten the length of life of my knives, but replacing the most important tool in your kitchen every 10-20 years for less than the cost of a microwave is hardly that much to ask when you consider the convenience and effectiveness of this tool.
Description of MinoSharp Water Knife Sharpener
f ease of use is your primary consideration, one of these hand held sharpeners is the correct sharpening tool for you. They are suitable for all brands of knives. However, they cannot be used for serrated knives or knives sharpened on one side like the Bunmei knives. All of the MinoSharps have two ceramic wheels, a rough grit and a medium grit. Please note: the MinoSharp is only recommended for Global knivesRecommended for sharpening Global knives but not necessarily those from other manufacturers, this device employs two ceramic wheels--one coarse, the other fine--to return a dull knife to working order. Using the sharpener is simple and easy. Fill the wheels' compartment with water so your blade is continuously washed while it's being sharpened. Then draw a knife seven or eight times through the coarse (white) wheel. Then draw your blade seven or eight times through the fine (pink) wheel to bring it back to life. The sharpener's plastic handle is shaped so it can be gripped firmly and safely and has a soft, rubber-like insert for comfort. --Fred Brack
