Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Vidalia Chop Wizard

Customer Review: This Wizard is a 10
Summary: 5 Stars

Just have to join the chorus of rave reviews for this little device. My husband and I agree this is our favorite kitchen gadget (we're not big on gadgets for the most part) and our college-age son has requested one for his own kitchen - I think I'll get a couple more while I'm here - they will make great Christmas gifts to a few other 'chefs' we know and love. I had to chuckle at the lady whose 3 & 5 years olds help her chop now, and another reviewer, the 5'2" bride who can't find the muscle to manage her big bad chopper unless hubby lends his . . . smile. It IS true that if a piece of food on the chopping grid is too thick or overlaps onto the edges at all it can be very difficult if not impossible to whack it on through the grid. When this happens to me I carefully peel the overlap back onto the grid and try again - it will work easily. If the piece is simply too thick, you may have to pry it off the grid and pare it down some - don't worry -- you won't make that mistake very often. This device works just like the ravers say - it makes chopping stuff FUN!! And the base has cup measurements marked on it so you can tilt it on its end as you work to see the volume without transferring. As another reviewr mentioned - I would buy a replacement tomorrow if I broke mine today. If you cook - get one - you won't be sorry.

Customer Review: Great Kitchen Helper
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm always skeptical about these As Seen on TV products, but since I'm all thumbs in the kitchen, I thought I'd have nothing to lose with trying this one. Lo' and behold, it is by far THE SINGLE MOST USEFUL ITEM in my kitchen next to the microwave! I use it many times a day, for dicing fruit for the kids, to making fresh salads and preparing mashed potatoes. There is nothing easier since you simply place the fruit or veggie on the blade, close the top firmly yet easily, and presto -- you've just perfectly diced! The instructions recommend cutting larger pieces in half or quarters and this helps especially with potatoes. There are two different dicing blades which allow for the real small cubes like onions for egg salad, and the larger pieces great for fruit salads. I especially love the quick pop in and out blade panels, easy to rinse and store. There is a small plastic picker to get the crud out from the blades while rinsing, and this came in handy when I diced apples with skins. The base has rubber stoppers so the unit sits firmly on your counter with no clumsy sliding around. I love this product so much I plan to buy one for all the cooks in my family to make their job in the kitchen much easier. A+ all the way. Get one!

Customer Review: How did I ever manage without it?
Summary: 5 Stars

I admit that I was skeptical about this gadget but I am a raw foodie with chronic illness (including fibromyalgia and carpal tunnel syndrome) and I needed some extra help in the kitchen preparing my mountain of veggies so I took a chance on the Vidalia Chop Wizard. Now that I have been using it every day since I received it from Amazon, I am wondering how I ever managed without it? Wow! It really is wonderful, especially for me with the pain in my wrists and fingers. The Vidalia Wizard is easy to use ~ I was afraid I would need extra strength which I don't have in order to close the chopper but that is not the case at all. I precut my veggies as recommended and voila, a nice, neat pile of chop or dice without any extra effort. It's safer for me too considering how my illness effects my knife skills and really saves me from my painful struggles with chopping and dicing. Clean-up is not so bad ~ I take a brush to the chopper lid as a brush is more effective than the little tool that is included with the chopper and if you want, you can put the entire chopper on the top rack of your dishwasher.

I am so excited about my Vidalia, I am going to buy several more as gifts. You can't go wrong purchasing it from Amazon either.

Customer Review: It works! It really works!

I was skeptical, having been burned in the past by kitchen gadgets that promised to make short work of tasks like chopping and dicing. But after reading the reviews here I decided I'd give this a try. I'm so glad that I did, too!

This thing WORKS. Within moments of its arrival I'd chopped 3 red onions. (I like to stash ready-to-cook ingredients in the fridge to make meal prep faster throughout the week.) Yes, with one particularly large onion I had to quarter it but so what? That takes 2 seconds, and chopping the entire thing took maybe 10 more seconds, for a total of 12 seconds to get 2 cups of chopped onion. Doing that by hand would have easily taken a couple of minutes, so I definitely saved time.

I've since used it on apples, firm-fleshed melon, carrots (slice lengthwise first), potatoes (slice into quarters) and cucumbers (seeded). The Vidalia Chop Wizard made short work of all of them.

The one thing I had problems with was a very ripe tomato. But, hey, even my good chef knife has problems with those now and then.

Best money I've spent on a kitchen gadget. I wholeheartedly recommend this!

Customer Review: WOW - this thing is great!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this product! I'm cooking more and using lots more fruits and veggies, so we're saving money and eating better. It's also fun to use!

I hate chopping of any kind, but especially onions! I have sensitive eyes and end up a wreck if I dare to use anything other than frozen. I would do a lot more cooking if I didn't have to chop up all the fruits and vegetables. The Vidalia Chop Wizard gets me through the dreaded onions before my eyes can tear up. It makes fast work of all my chopping chores, so I've got a healthy, delicious meal on the table in record time.

Seriously, this thing is great! I've had it about a week, and already used it on onions, hot peppers, tomatoes, and cilantro for salsa, as well as sweet peppers, potatoes, strawberries and apples. It's fast, easy, and clean-up is a breeze! Just be sure not to let food dry on the grids, and the little comb they provide with it will get out any food, even the chopped cilantro. This item is well-designed, making every stage of its use a pleasure, and seems quite sturdy to me. Honestly, just try it and you'll be glad you did!
