Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Victorio VKP1013 Round Three-Tray Kitchen Seed Sprouter

Customer Review: Makes sprouting easy enough that you'll actually do it.
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this for years and it works great. It's a big step up from the jar method. Sprouts do not get jostled when rinsed, so they grow neatly in an upward direction. Water drains surprisingly well for perfectly horizontal trays. Just add water to the top 2x day, and empty the accumulation in the bottom as needed.

I rinse it in the morning and before bed. It quickly became a habit for me. Once I start it going, I will just add new sprouts to a tray as I empty it, and I'm never out of sprouts. If I'm wanting an extra amount of sprouts on hand, I'll add a double amount to the newly emptied tray, and then transfer half of it to the next one that becomes empty. This gives the sprouts a head start, and if they're transfered to their final tray within a few days, they'll still grow nicely in an upward direction. I find this is important with alfalfa sprouts, because you don't really want the foliage part to get flopped over once it gets going, or it retains too much water and might require a third rinse per day to guarantee freshness.

One note regarding the flow between levels: sometimes the unit requires tipping towards the little spigots to get the water flow started. One can also do this to drain the few drops of water that remains in the trays if one desires.

Customer Review: Perfect
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this sprouter after having one that required you to put the water in and dump it out two to three times daily and the holes on the mesh top weren't small enough and the seeds fell through or you couldn't get all the water out and they rotted. This one, however, drains beautifully; although you need to keep an eye on it to make sure that all the trays drain properly.

One of the other reviews said something about the sprouts taking too long to reach a good length. The way we solved that problem is to keep the sprouter on the top of the fridge. The heat from the motor is just enough to speed up sprouting and to somewhat dry the trays out to prevent mold. If one of the trays doesn't drain properly, just give it a little shake and dislodge the seed that is blocking the drainage hole.

I love this thing and it makes it very possible to get cheap, healthy food in my town. Fresh fruits and veggies are very expensive here, esp. in the winter. So, any way that I can find to lower that bill is a good thing.

Customer Review: Kitchen Sprouter
Summary: 5 Stars

I love my new kitchen seed sprouter. We are always trying to improve the quality of the foods we take in. Recently seed sprouts have been introduced to us as "highly nutritional" and easy to grow using home sprouters. I feel better about using my home sprouter because I can control the quality of water and cleanliness in which they are grown. It takes only about 3 days to grow them, and it's fun to watch them change each day. My 2-year old grandaughter also thinks it's fun to watch them grow. We've added them to our salads and sandwiches & they are very tasty and delightful. Our friends have also received some of our "bounty" from the seeds grown & also enjoy them. I would recommend anyone who is interested in nutrition and EZ things to add to the diet that they buy this great product.

Customer Review: Works Great
Summary: 5 Stars

Having read the other reviews about the product not draining well and problems with mold etc. I was skeptical. However, I find if you do NOT place the covers tightly on the drain holes, line up the drains when stacking the pieces and place something under the side of the sprouter on the opposite side of the drains (tipping the whole container slightly), it drains well and works beautifully. A little trouble, but I want to grow a good variety at once in small batches without it taking up a lot of room. The trade off is worth it.

PS you do have to be sure that the sprouts do not block the drain by growing under the drain cover

Customer Review: Great product with a lot of flexibility
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using this spouter for close to 9 years and continue to be very happy with it. The three tray design allows a great deal of flexibility. You can grow three different types of sprouts, rotate your crops so you have a fresh crop every couple of days, or fill all three trays with your favorite variety.

Rarely do I have seeds or roots clogging the drains as long as the drain caps are put on tightly before adding seeds. I'm sure every sprouter has one or two drawbacks but this one has been long lasting and nothing I have experienced will keep me from giving it less than 5 stars.
