I looked and looked for a good bread knife before I became familiar with the Victorinox knives. I absolutely love this knife - it works great with soft and hard breads. I used to have a problem slicing soft bread loaves as the knife wouldn't cut and would smash/squash the bread - this knife doesn't - just be sure and use a sawing motion - don't try to cut straight through. This knive is also great for bagles - however, use extreme caution as these knives are extremely sharp so always cut away from yourself and use a cutting board (especially when slicing something like a bagle if you value your thumbs or that little fatty part of your hand below the thumb - OUCH!! stitches hurt!!).Customer Review: Excellent product.

I have purchased many knives and knife sets only to be terribly disappointed in their quality and ability to remain sharp. Before making this purchase, I did my research on several different websites- this brand of knife was rated very highly. The price is quite reasonable and the quality is that of a much more expensive knife. I definitely would recommend this product. You can pay more for others knives or names but why? The Chef's knife in this series is fabulous so I thought I might replace my heavy saw-toothed Henckels breadknife. I was absolutely floored by the ease with which this cut through a heavy crusted rye bread. I could even make 1/4 inch slices! No more sawing action, it's like cutting through "buttah". Thank you Forschner. Now if you could just figure out a better package material, everything would be perfect.Customer Review: Forschner knives rock!

I bought this strictly because I was so pleased with the Forschner 8-inch chef's knife I bought a few months ago and was not disappointed. Chopped rock hard bulk chocolate like it was butter, made short work of crusty-outside soft-inside baguettes, and effortlessly sliced tomato wafer thin.
These Forschner knives are the best quality for value PRODUCTS, not just knives, I've ever encountered. Buy some!

This knife is great. I've had it for almost 2 years, and it's still as sharp as it was out of the box. This knife works well on bread, "soft-skinned" vegetables, and other food. This knife is very sharp, and cuts very well. It is a long knife, so watching your fingers is a must. The actual blade is a little thinner then most, and can sometimes be flimsy at times. I like this knife and would buy it again.
