Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Victorinox 47547 10-1/4-Inch Wavy Bread Knife, Black Fibrox Handle

Customer Review: Excellent bread knife
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a real bread knife, not an imitation "do all". I work for a retail food company and the research chefs recommended this as a great professional knife. The cuts are sharp and tight, with no tearing of the bread, even soft french bread. The light weight makes this easy to handle and the price is right. I came home from work yesterday and my wife had cut up a baguette without using the cutting board. Not a problem with the old knives. But now I have numerous cuts in the countertop. Who cares, the knife did great!!! I'm switching to marble this summer anyway...
Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Did You Feel It?
Summary: 5 Stars

This knife is so sharp that it can go through almost anything. After using a Henckles 8" for years and struggling to slice homemade bread evenly, I purchased a special guide but even at that it was a hassle. I finally broke down, dumped the Henckles and on Cook's Illustrated magazine's recommendation, purchased this beauty. I no longer need the guide. This is so sharp that it slices perfectly, evenly and the extra length makes it so very easy to get through wider loaves. I have several Forschner/Victorinox fibrox-handled knives and each and every one is superb. THIS one is outstanding.

Customer Review: Any way you slice it, this is a great knife...
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm so happy that I signed up as a member of the Cooks Illustrated site. They recommended this knife as a sensible alternative to another knife costing 3 times as much. I've been baking a lot of rustic breads lately, and sometimes the top of the loaf is, well...rustic so with a "regular" bread knife, cutting perfect slices is a challenge. Not with this knife. It's sharp, accurate and a pure joy to use. Dead on slices, as thin as you dare to cut them. Like another reviewer said, I wish I bought this knife 20 years ago! The best $25 bucks I've spent in a long time. Highly recommended.

Customer Review: the best I've used
Summary: 5 Stars

Cook's Illustrated is not always right, but they are about this knife. It is better than knives costing 5 times as much. Excellent for bread, obviously, but also for slicing cakes into layers or any other serrated work. The knife does not last for ever. Mine broke after five years or so. I bought another one immediately. Given that it is almost impossible to sharpen a serrated knife perfectly, having to replace it after a few years is not a bad thing - just makes you even gladder you didn't spend a hundred bucks on one to match a fancy set that doesn't work as well.

Customer Review: Excellent Knife
Summary: 5 Stars

Excellent knife. Well balanced and exceptionally sharp. It cuts through hard bread and soft items easily.

People not used to handling large knives should consider the 8" version of this knife as it takes practice to hadle such a long cutting edge.

Although the blade is very thin and a bit flexible it's not flimsy.

I have owned a Forschner Fibrox handled chef's knife for years and it's my everyday knife. This bread knife is equal in quality and will become part of my standard tool kit.
