Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Victorinox 47508 3-1/4-Inch Paring KnifeCustomer Review: Know what you're buying, and this is a great knife Summary: 4 Stars
I'll admit, I'm a bit of a knife snob, having spent countless hours on forums looking for quality knives for my kitchen. However, I wanted something cheap, sturdy, and sharp to have at work, as I'm always bringing whole fruit to the office. For those who are aware of the difference, these are knives of the cheap stamped steel variety. A bit flimsy, and probably not something that'll last you throughout the years. But if you're looking for cheap and sharp, this does wonders. And keep in mind, it's sharp mostly because it's so thin, so don't expect to use much for cutting hard foodstuffs. For your own personal kitchen, there's better out there. 5 stars for it if used as a throwaway knife - 2 stars as an at-home heavy duty paring knife though.
Customer Review: Good, cheap knife! Summary: 4 Stars
I, like so many others, read about this knife in "Cooks Illustrated". It is a good little knife, no doubt about it. I do find myself reaching for it a lot. It lost some sharpness pretty quickly but sharpened back up on a rod-style sharpener and I have an electric knife sharpener that will probably work fine when the time comes. If you don't have an inclination or ability to sharpen it, then you might be disapointed down the road.
The handle is a bit dinky and the whole knife feels a little cheap compared to some of my "nicer" knives but it is extremely maneuverable and quick. Perfect for slicing an apple or other fruit. It's a nice way to round out an order for free shipping!
Customer Review: Good Little Paring Knife Summary: 4 Stars
This is a very good little paring knife. Especially for the price. I don't use any of my other cheap paring knife's any more. I love this little thing. I does feel very light but it is built pretty sturdy and the blade is sharp. Not as sharp as I expected but you can sharpen it with a stone like another reviewer mentioned and because of the composition of the blade make it as sharp as you want. It's not shiny or flashy but it will get the job done and at the cost you really can't beat it for easy of use and utility. Don't bother with any cheap paring knife when you can buy this one for about the same price and get much better quality.
Customer Review: Nice knife at a great price Summary: 4 Stars
I'm getting quite attached to the Victorinox line of knives -- very good quality and a great price point. Cooks Illustrated rated their Chef's knife (~$25) as best buy -- over several other $110+ knives by big brand names.
This little paring knife is small, easy to handle and wicked sharp. The black 'Fibrox' (whatever that is) handle is slip resistant and dish-washer safe as far as I can tell.
Cooks looking for a big beefy blade should look elsewhere, but that's the only negative I can find ...
Customer Review: Great little paring knife Summary: 4 Stars
This knife is handy for peeling apples and also for slicing. The knife is small and lightweight with good balance and the handle is textured so it doesn't slip. And it's sharp! I've used it to slice lemons, carrots, potatoes, apples, etc. and it cuts smoothly with little effort. This is a smaller than usual paring knife; I think the standard size has a 4" blade, but the length is great for fine mincing of garlic and herbs. Good value for the money.
