Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Victorinox 40521 10-Inch Chef's Knife, Black Fibrox HandleCustomer Review: Awesome Knife Summary: 5 Stars
What an awesome knife. I've cooked for many years both professionally and in my own home and this is a great knife. Light, easy to handle and holds an edge as well as professional knives I've used. The blade is a bit thinner that the knives you see in restaurants but that just gives a lighter feel. The textured handle helps you keep a grip even with wet hands. I use this knife everyday. The large size makes it ideal for butterflying meat and making cutlets as well as chopping. I would recommend this knife to anyone. If you are just starting out cooking and can't afford an array of expensive knives this is the one you should buy. Very useful
Customer Review: supremely sharp knife Summary: 5 Stars
Our knives have been horribly blunt for months now and seem to be beyond rescuing by the electric sharpener, so I decided to buy a single Victorinox to test out the brand. Well, there is no comparison - the Victorinox is simply the best knife I own. Not only is it supremely sharp, reducing onions, tomatoes and mushrooms to chopped piles in seconds, but the grip, size and balance are perfect for my hands. As other reviewers have said, there are better knives out there but not in this price range. The only caveat is to watch your fingers - it's extremely easy to cut yourself deeply if you miss, so keep those digits tucked in!
Customer Review: even better than the 8 inch version Summary: 5 Stars
america's test kitchen, a/k/a cook's illustrated, rates this knife as the best one around (for the price), but they're talking about the 8 inch version. if you can handle a knife, you want this knife in the 10 inch version. bottom line is that the 10 inch version makes shorter work of every project, and especially the ones that involve prepping whole vegetables like cauliflower or squash that are simply bigger than what an 8 inch knife can handle in one slice (you know, that whole "economy of motion" thing). anyway, this knife is truly indispensible, and unbelievably cheap. don't waste your money on anything else.
Customer Review: A favorite of a serious culinary knife collector Summary: 5 Stars
Based on the recommendation of my favorite cooking show and magazine, I bought this chef knife despite the fact that I have more than ten, everything from high priced Japanese to the very serviceable German Wusthofs. Plus, to date I've only purchased full tang, forged knives. To my very pleasant surprise this is turning out to be one of my favorites. I especially like it for fine chopping fresh herbs and makes a wonderful chiffinade with basil and other leafed herbs. Definitely worth the money. Not a lot of heft to the knife, but handle is comfortable and blade angle perfect.
Customer Review: Great knife, pretty cheap Summary: 5 Stars
I picked up this knife after spotting an article on Lifehacker where some professional chefs discussed their choice of a backup knife. That is, the knife they use when they need it to cut well, but be replaceable if damaged, for use in applications like cutting through bone or something. As an amateur cook, I can't justify a massive expenditure on a professional knife, but I really want something SHARP. The Victorinox fills this niche perfectly. I sharpen it regularly, and it performs for me every day. Good value!
