OMG!! this knife is freaky sharp... please be careful... since the knife is long, it wouldn't fit in my pull-out drawer, so i have to store it in a bottom cabinet w/ my pizza knife... well, i was re-arranging the cabinet and didn't realize my thumb was close to the knife... you got it... it reached out and grabbed the tip of my thumb... i was afraid to look... i haven't had a chance to use it, per se, but it WILL cut extremely thin slices, just as i had hoped... the tip of my thumb is healing well... ENJOY!
update: 2/26/11... FYI... as i recall, the knife i purchased was around $40 w/free shipping, not $68 plus shipping...

This is a great knife! I'm an amateur cook, now graduating to doing lunches and dinners for up to 300 people, so my knives do not sit idle in the drawer. This is a terrific slicing knife-almost effortless--if you use the same pressure in slicing that you have been with other knives, you'll probably bounce the meat right off the board onto the floor--I'm serious. No shredding, no tearing, no slices sticking to the knife blade. Probably the closest thing to a professional deli slicer there is (but unfortunately not as "automatic"). I have been very satisfied with all Victorinox knives I have purchased--this is no exception.Customer Review: Top rated slicer

I love the Forschner knives and have bought a number of smaller ones over the past couple of years. They do hold an edge beautifully and sharpen easily. In spite of a low price point they outperform any knife I've yet owned or used and I'd recommend any of them. This one, however was a bit more of an investment for me but I haven't regretted it. When you need a carving knife, you need a good one and this is a great one. Especially like the Granton Edge, as the meat doesn't stick and slices roll right off the blade.Customer Review: Great knife as the reviews say

Like many of the reviews have said this is a great knife and a good value. I also saw the saw the high rating on America's Test Kitchen/Cooks Illustrated and went with the Victorinox 12-Inch. Made an eye round roast tonight for dinner that came out amazing. Trimming the roast before cooking and carving it after was like cutting thru butter. Only issue is my wife is worried I'll cut of a finger and not even notice given how smooth this cuts. I just used this slicing knife on rib roast at Christmas. I couldn't believe how easy it was to slice the roast. This knife is really sharp. My dad was a butcher and this knife is even better than his butcher knives. This carver is as sharp as any expensive knife that sells for over $200. The handle is made of a material that prevents your hand from slipping which is really nice. I purchased this knife upon Cooks Illustrated recommended and they were right.
