Not to be used on drum heads.
I didn't realize how long I'd been waiting for the item that would tie together my fervent twin interests in percussion and pastry. Every time I roll out puff pastry, pizza crust or cookie dough, I marvel at this elegant tool and laugh a little at the vaguely stupid confluence of Vic Firth's hands and my leisure life.
I love this rolling pin.

The Vic Firth French Rolling Pin quickly became my favorite tool for rolling out doughs, especially pie crusts.
For more than 40 years, I used a standard style pin with ball bearings and hand-holds on each end. The Vic Firth rolling pin is lighter and easier to handle; making it faster to turn out the exact thickness of dough needed. Why did I not purchase one Review: Simple, but I Like It!
Summary: 5 Stars What can you say about a single, oblong piece of maple wood? Not much, except that it works!
This rolling pin is shaped and balanced very well, so it feels very natural to use. Probably the simplest and also the best rolling pin I have ever owned.
Note: I do recommend treating the wood with mineral oil or something similar. It was a little dry right out of the box.

The pictures don't do justice to this rolling pin. The wood is dense and smooth (so sticking is not a problem) and has a nice heft in your hands. It's a perfect size -- big enough for a good sized pie crust and not so large it's unweildy. If you want to really get a feel for your dough, you need a pin like this rather than one with handles.Customer Review: I LOVE this rolling pin

I am a back to the basics kind of cook. I make bread, baked goods and pie crusts completely by hand and enjoy doing everything hands on. I completely agree with all of the positive reviews of this product. It is simplicity at its finest. I am so glad I purchased this even though I paid double the current price for it. NO regrets!!
