Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Drinkwell Platinum High Capacity Replacement Filter Cartridges, 3 FiltersCustomer Review: These Filters Are A Step-Up From The Older Version! Summary: 5 Stars
Since I already posted a review for the Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain, I am going to keep this review focused on the product itself, which is the new and improved filter.
I can't say that I was all that thrilled with the previous filter for use with the older version of the Drinkwell Pet Fountain. It was always producing a lot of charcoal in my cats water and although it didn't hurt him, I still didn't like the site of all that "garbage" in the bottom of his water dish. Also, the old filters didn't seem to do that good of job of filtering out the water. I don't know if it was just me, but I didn't like them all that much.
Now we jump forward to the other day when I got the Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain for my cat's eighth birthday, which he was simply overjoyed with and stuck his entire face in the stream to get the first drink.
These new filters seem to do a much better job at filtering out the water as it circulates throughout the system. I have yet to see any charcoal in the bottom of his dish, nor anywhere else for that matter. I would definitely recommend that you buy several of these three-packs of replacement filters and be sure and change them frequently depending upon the condition of your local water. Some places have a harder water than others and therefore should replace the filters more often.

Customer Review: Premium Filters - No problems Summary: 5 Stars
I disagree with M&M's review about the filters lasting no more than 1 day. That hasn't been my experience at all. Make sure they get loaded with the black side facing the front of the fountain, and the narrower edge goes in first. Also, it's important to rinse the filter with cold water before inserting. This will get rid of any loose carbon dust. The manual explains all this.
According to the manual, 1 filter should last 6-8 weeks, depending on your pump speed and how quickly your animal(s) go through the water. I change mine every 2 months, sometimes longer. Now, I *clean* the whole fountain every 5-6 days, taking apart the whole thing, dumping out the old water, giving it a good scrubbing with soap and hot water. I take the lid off first, clean it, and rest the filter on the lid while I clean the rest of the fountain. Then I put the same filter back in, unless it's due for a change.
$10 for a 3-pack that lasts 6 months is a good deal to me. Don't know how the other user had such problems with grime and slime. It's important to clean the fountain regularly is all I can think of.
Great product!!
Customer Review: Both my cats love it! Summary: 5 Stars
I have two cats who previously loved to drink out of the bathroom sink daily. They still do, but now they also love drinking from their Drinkwell fountain. One of the two cats finds it entertaining for minutes at a time to just sit and stare at the running water, and sometimes likes to splash around in it so I have it sitting on a towel to absorb any splashes. I clean the fountain weekly by taking the pieces apart (easy) and rinsing them in hot water. Sometimes I also have to use a scrubby kitchen sponge due to build up from our water but that easily comes off also. For two medium-sized cats I fill the tank about every 4-5 days, but this probably depends more on the evaporation rate than on how much your cats drink. The filters are inexpensive (~$7 for three filters) and I change it monthly. I would highly recommend this product as it keeps the cats drinking a lot of water, essential to healthy kidney function.
Customer Review: New Style is BETTER Summary: 5 Stars
I've upgraded to the PLATINUM fountains & while the older style 2 chamber filter still works with these,
when I needed more, I bought the new design with 6 chambers rather than 2.
Since I wash the fountains weekly and rinse the filters in about 2-3 drops of dishwashing detergent (the kind w/bleach) to
about 1 gallon of HOT water, swish it around for awhile, then rinse under extremely HOT water for several minutes,
the old style filters would develop "worn" spots where the filter backing would pill/fray/peel.
The new style is a very tight design that stands up like a champ. MUCH improved! I'm quite pleased.
In all but the hottest, most humid months of summmer, filters now last the 2 months easily with regular cleaning.
Customer Review: My cats LOVE this bowl- the filters are for the bowl. Summary: 5 Stars
This was purchased for my three cats who were wearing us out begging for the faucet to be turned on so they could drink fresh water. Since getting this they have a constant availability to get fresh running water when they want it without trying to convince one of us humans to turn it on for them. All three went to drink out of it right away without hesitation and I love the fact that the reservoir makes it easy- I only need to change and add water once a week for my three cats and it has yet to get low or run out in that time. The filters seem to be great and are easy to change.
