WHAT'S MISSING? P O W E R ! Buying most things today is
a trade-off at best, and buying a personal blender is no
exception. It's a real pity in this case....because just
about everything else in this blender is top-notch! (Only
a few other disappointments.........which really don't
mean too much....)
250 WATTS FOR THE MAGIC BULLET......200 WATTS FOR THE TRIBEST

Then again, the RELATIVE less amount of power may not bother
you at all. I checked my "THE MAGIC BULLET" -- and saw that
it has a 250 watt motor. (Pretty powerful for containers
that go no higher than 20 ounces....except for the much
larger blender/juicer, that I haven't tried as yet -- of
course.) When, all of a sudden, it stopped working, (one
year and one day after I had bought it....that is, the guar-
antee was now no good), I looked around AMAZON for another,
hopefully more stable blender. When I saw the TRIBEST PB
200, I gasped out loud.....WITH AN ADAPTOR, THE DESCRIPTION
SAID, ONE COULD USE GLASS MASON JARS AS CONTAINERS!
Glass is always so much cleaner than plastic, and cleans so
much better than plastic. For that reason alone, I chose the
TRIBEST PB 200 as my next blender. (The $60 price tag was
comparable to THE MAGIC BULLET set one could buy on Amazon --
without the juicer/blender attachment, like you can get on TV.
This price was another reason to get the TRIBEST.)
WHAT I GOT.
"The Magic Bullet" has a silver and black base. The Tribest has
an off-white, eggshell colour. No writing on the front or back
of the base....the logo, etc, is on the bottom. The Tribest base
has the shape of a "fez" hat, without the tassel. (Or, you
COULD think of it as the shape of one of towers at Three Mile
Island! I prefer to think it looks like a fez!) The enclosed
containers fit very nicely into the two enclosed grinding ele-
ments. (Strangely, the 2 pronged blade is recommended for
grinding, the 4 pronged blade for whipping.....just the opposite
of the Magic Bullet's recommendations!) Also enclosed are 2
8-ounce plastic containers, and two 16-ounce plastic containers.
These containers are longer and narrower than those with the
Magic Bullet....so cleaning might be difficult....especially
since all plastic containers for the Tribest blender are
not dishwasher safe. And 16 ounces for a container is as big
as you get, with the blender nase. If you want a larger
container, (24 ounces), you have to pay a nominal fee for it,
and buy it separately. This 24 oz container is REALLY long
and narrow, and super-hard to clean. It, like the other con-
tainers, is NOT dishwasher safe.... But you can get a long,
narrow spatula to help clean out this very long, 24 ounce
container. To my mind, it is something ore really does need,
if using the 24 oz. container for anything at all.
Also costing extra is the "S-adaptor" that allows the user to
use (dish-washer safe glass!), regular-mouth Mason Jars. This
is $6.95, and comes with an extra rubber ring. It is well-
worth the price! (Unless you really want handles for your
drinking cups, you need NOT buy the 16 ounce mugs offered by
Tribest. For myself, I like at least a 20-ounce container for
my drinks, anyway. AND YOU CAN BUY THESE ONE AT A TIME, NOT
A DOZEN AT A TIME, BY SIMPLY BUYING VARIOUS BRANDS OF PASTA
SAUCE IN THE SUPERMARKET! Believe it or not, many of these
brands of pasta sauce come packed in GLASS MASON JARS....16
OZ, 24 OZ, 32 OZ SIZES! A nice little secret, and nice little
dividend, to use when buying the TRIBEST 200pb!
The cookbook that comes with the TRIBEST 2000pb is quite good,
with many tips as well as receipes. The recommended cookbook
to buy at extra cost, is even better! "Smoothies and Other
Scrumptious Delights" is made of fine, slick paper, with great
photographs, tempting (and healty!) receipes.....AND A 'RE-
SOURCE' GUIDE AT THE BACK, GIVING PHONE NUMBERS AND ADDRESSES
FOR VARIOUS NAURAL FOODS AND OTHER PRODUCTS.
So, except for the relative small capacity of the non-dishwasher
safe containers, the narrowness of these containers, (making
them difficult to clean), and the 50 watts less in power than
THE MAGIC BULLET, the TRIBEST 200pb is a really great little
personal blender, (for one or two people). The "S-ring" adapt-
or, allowing the use of GLASS mason jars, is really a stroke of
genuis....and is something I've not seen anywhere else.
Oh yes....the REASON my Magic Bullet stopped on me was because I
guess I let it run for longer than the 1 minute at a time
recommended. (Just call me an impatient native New Yorker, I
guess!) Anyway, what happened was that the assembly that is
part of the base, that clips on to the bottom of the blade
assembly attached to a drink container, simply SHATTERED into
4 pieces! The drink container assembly came off, but thank
goodness didn't go too far, (just a few inches) and didn't spill.
But I couldn't use my MAGIC BULLET any more, and my warranty had
just run out.........
This very morning, I also thoughtlessly left the TRIBEST 200 PB
on for a bit longer than 1 minute at a time, as well. The base got
warmer and warmer --but I was too much in a rush to have to wait the
20 seconds between each 60 second period, as recommended. Finally
.......the machine just stopped! NO broker under-pinnings, no
flying containers....it just stopped! I was worried I had broken
it......but no, after about a 20 minute "cooling off" period, the
little Tribest 200 pb was working as well as ever!
Wow! Automatic shut-off! It seems those people at "TriBest"
really DO "try their best" to make an eminently usable, eminently
safe machine! Together with the Mason Jar attachment option,
this is one great little blender! (Now, if they'd only make it
a tiny bit more powerful.....300 or 350 watts??????? Please????!)
