Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Tovolo Silicone Spatula, Blue

Customer Review: Very nice
Summary: 5 Stars

This is very nice. This does a very good job in scraping the bowl. Fancy looking.

Customer Review: Nice spatula!
Summary: 4 Stars

What can one really say about a spatula? It may be a mild commentary on my life (as I get older) that really nice kitchenware excites me enough that I'm willing to spend my time rating it. This is simply a very nice spatula. I bought both the blue and red ones. The metal handle is unique and the rich color differs enough from the standard white plastic spatulas of the 70s and 80s that they look good in my expensive stainless steel kitchen utensil holder. I've only had them for a couple of weeks now, but they feel relatively well built. We'll see how they hold up over time. A bit expensive, but you'll look good making that omelette with this item. Recommended.

Customer Review: almost perfect
Summary: 4 Stars

4.5 stars. This is a great spatula. It has a nice, thin, sharp edge and scrapes a bowl or pan so clean you'd never know anything had been in it. The only reason I didn't give it a perfect score is because it is heavier than I'd like.

Customer Review: Spatula
Summary: 4 Stars

I like the feel and weight of this item, it is dishwasher safe, and I like the different edges on each side. However, I feel it's a tiny bit stiff and makes cleaning the bowl of batter a bit more challenging.

Customer Review: did not quite meet expectations
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased this spatula because I was tired of how fast my normal cheap, rubber scrapers wear out. This model fared well in a Cooks' Illustrated testing, so I thought I'd give it a try. It's the first time I've purchased a silicone spatula.

The scraping portion does an effortless, beautiful job of getting every last bit of batters and sauces out of bowls of all sizes and shapes. Considering how well it works, I could live with the fact that the metal handle is rather heavy and the whole thing takes up more room in the drawer than I expected. However, after only 4 months, the edge of the scraper is tearing/splitting. I have not used this spatula heavily: no stiff doughs, no hot oil or hot pans, and certainly no using it in the blender. In fact, I don't think I've used it more than a dozen times so far. I store it separately from my knives, and I have never put it in the dishwasher, so I just don't see this tear could possibly have come about from contact with a sharp implement or from some other accidental abuse. Maybe I just got a defective one, but I would have expected a well-reviewed spatula that rated high in Cooks Illustrated's battery of tests to be more durable.
