I've have a blue one of these for several months now and it quickly became my number one utility piece. It's as soft and pliable as when I bought it. I can't imagine pieces breaking off. Perhaps it depends on how it's used and handled. I used it to stir and as a spatula on stove top cooking. I don't leave it laying in a hot pan and I don't use a dishwasher. It's soft silicone, all you have to do is wipe it down with hot soap and water.

This fabulous Tovolo red silicone spatula is lightweight and durable and features a design that is shaped to mold to the sides of almost any bowl or pan in the kitchen. Its silicone head is curved on one side and flat on the other, while the edges are tapered to a sharp point to scrape bowl and pan sides clean. The stainless steel handle fits nicely in the hand and will not degrade, unlike a traditional wooden handle.Spatulas
