Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Tovolo Groovy Ice Pop Molds, Set of 6, YellowCustomer Review: absolutely the BEST...hands down Summary: 5 Stars
i got the sudden urge to make ice pops a few months ago and i almost made an impulse buy at the supermarket and bought some crappy ice pop trays....but instead, i did my research and found THESE. and they were 100% worth the wait...they are the best EVEr.... it's the perfect size pop (some other reviewers said they're too big but if you measure how much they hold, which i did, it's less than 1/2 a cup, so in terms of a serving size, one pop is completely reasonable for 1 person, if not 2. i use grapefruit juice a lot and 1/2 a cup of pure juice, not watered down, is only 45 calories. they could NOT be easier to remove from the molds either, just place under hot running water from the sink for no more than 6 seconds and jiggle it a bit, gently, and WA LA! easy to clean, plastic doesn't absorb the taste or color of whatever mixtures you put in...i recently made pina colada pops (yogurt, shredded coconut and chunks of pineapple) sheer heaven
Customer Review: Low-Carb Recipe Suggestion Summary: 5 Stars
Fill blender with around 2-2/3 cups water. Add 1/2 cup party peanuts (around 12 grams carbs) and pulverize. Then blend in 1 pack of sugar-free vanilla or chocolate pudding mix (around 28 grams carbs). Then blend in 6 ounces of low-carb vanilla yogurt (around 4 grams carbs). A 4-cup mixture will fill 8 pop molds. The nutritional math works out to around 5.5 grams carbs and 70 calories per pop (depending on the ingredients used).
The pulverized peanuts produce a small-crystal ice texture. Thawing the pop in the refrigerated section for 2-3 hours before consumption results in an ice cream like texture.
To conserve mold-release running tap water, fill a small container with hot water and consecutively immerse all the molds in one session. Place the pops on a plate in wagon wheel configuration and return to freezer.
Customer Review: Great pop molds! Summary: 5 Stars
I've had these pop molds for only a week now, but I'm already very pleased with them and am planning to buy another set. I've made pudding pops with instant pudding and fruit pops with concentrated fruit juices. The pop size is very generous, the pops unmold easily and the components are sturdy and easy to clean. I just fill the pop mold with hot water after unmolding the pop and it's clean and ready to be reused in short order.
As others have mentioned, they are generously sized, but you can always make the pop smaller by filling them about halfway. The holes on the plastic stick which allows the pop to be "anchored" onto the plastic are placed quite low on the stick. So you can get away with making a smaller pop. I like being able to choose large or small pops depending on the fill size.
Customer Review: Good size, nice mold Summary: 5 Stars
I had to replace my Tovolo Rocket Pop mold when I dropped the tray when full and some of the molds shattered. Plastic will definitely weaken and ultimately shatter if dropped--that isn't unique to this product. Anyway, I like this mold better because it has a sturdier base. The rocket pops were cute, but narrow and tall with a smaller insertion point so there was always a risk of them falling over. Not so much with these since they're rectangles with a flat base. They look like a traditional store-bought pop. Really, to me the only negative is you have to have the freezer space. They're a great item and practically the only way to get affordable color-additive, HFCS free pops.
Customer Review: Great product !!! Summary: 5 Stars
I love these popsicle makers. Since I love cold treats in the summer, by making my own popsicles and keeping them handy, I can make a better choice for myself rather than the high fat/high calorie ice creams at the supermarket (that I also love). One of my favorite recipes is to first blend together frozen fruit, sorbet (Haagen Dazs sorbet has no fat and only trace amounts of milk protein), and a little bit of apple juice to loosen things up. Pour them into the Tovolo popsicle makers and you are in store for a yummy frozen treat. Peach fruit with Peach sorbet is my favorite. The catch all tray attached to the stick is a perfect way to keep clean while eating your popsicles.
