Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Tovolo Groovy Ice Pop Molds, Set of 6, Yellow

Customer Review: Great Size, Built Well, and Work Well
Summary: 5 Stars

I got these last week and tried them out over the weekend. Nothing fancy, just 1 part OJ concentrate and 2 parts milk. Yeah, that's right, just put the one can of frozen concentrated fruit juice in a blender along with two cans of milk and blend to mix well. The milk will blend up real nice and expand just a bit, making it freeze less solid than a water mixture. This gives them both flavor and texture that is preferable for frozen treats. Anyway, after letting them sit for a few hours in the freezer (preferably overnight), you just take them out and run a little tap water on each side for about 60 seconds. Then they pull right out. The plastic is thick so it takes a little more time than ice cubes or other thin plastic molds.

The size is great. No tiny little kid servings here. You get a nice big frozen treat. The plastic is all pretty much heavy-duty. The support sticks have holes cut in them to allow the frozen mix to fill in there and create a better bond for extraction and while eating, minimizing the chances of sliding off.

Recipes are easy to find. Just look up smoothies or any other sweet liquid treat. They can almost all be converted into a great frozen treat to use in these molds.

Customer Review: Strong, Large, and just a wonderful Item
Summary: 5 Stars

I decided to purchase this item based on reviews - and boy did I make the right choice. Thank you for the positive reviews and hence I am leaving one now.

The package came super super fast - unbelievably in couple of days. It was well packaged. I decided to make rasberry and strawberry popsicles. The molds are large and has a nice sturdy base where you attach the 6 molds. The plastic material of the molds and base are strong. I proceeded to make my popsicles and in just 4 hours they were ready. I then proceeded to take one mold at a time in preparation to eat. It only took 30 seconds under warm water and voila: The popsicle came right out. I JUST LOVE IT how eas it was. I noticed how the handle is (Where you hold the popsicle) strong and round. It makes you feel confident not to drop it. It has a nice catch tray on the bottom and I just used a small spoon to get the rest.

I really really want to recommend this product to all adults. As for children, if they don't mind a large popsicle.

I am planning to buy another set of 6 soon.

The only Gripe I have was the shipping - The $9 or so was reasonably priced - but the shipping is almost double.

Customer Review: healthy treats for kids, good quality for mom!
Summary: 5 Stars

Just what I needed! I am making more of my kids' snacks rather than buying convenience items. I'm a doctor, & I have become fed up with having to decipher the ingredients that go into my kids' bodies. I know that my pops have naturally sweet organic strawberries & homemade organic yogurt in them, and that's IT. And the kids devour them. Or plain organic juices, lemonade, you name it. It's not hard to fill them, or clean them, so it's no more work than spending the extra time in the freezer aisle. I can refill them individually as soon as the molds appear in the sink (or the kids are making juice blends now). As another reviewer confirmed, some plastics will crack if dropped when frozen, so I would be careful of that. The kids slide the pops out easily by running them under a little cool water for about 30 seconds. Drips aren't an issue if they remember to slurp out the drip catcher. You do need enough freezer space to keep these upright until frozen of course, although they don't seem to drip if the top is on firmly. I suspect it may leak if you try freezing these on their sides, as the frozen liquid expands. Happy pop-making!

Customer Review: Best pop molds I've ever used!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've used several ice pop molds over the years, and up until now I thought Tupperware's pop molds were by far the best. These Tovolo molds lack the ability to replace either the cap or the handle (they are one molded piece) but the plastic used in the cap/handle and the mold is easily the best I've ever seen for pop molds. It's too early to predict how well these will actually hold up after dozens of freezings and thawings, but if the quality of materials is any indication, they should last a long, long time.

One month later:

While I still think these are overall the best pop molds I've ever used, I did discover one thing about them (the hard way, naturally): don't drop them on anything hard (i.e., a tile floor) after they've been in the freezer for a day or more. The yellow caps/lids tend to get brittle after freezing, and they will crack and/or break. The opaque molds don't appear to have this issue, although I don't plan to intentionally test their break-resistance threshold. I glued mine back together with Barge Cement. It's not pretty but it's functional.

Customer Review: Wonderful Product!! A must for hot summer days!

Key Lime Popsicles
5 cups water
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup fresh Key lime juice or lime juice

Combine sugar and water in a large non-aluminum saucepan; bring to a boil and stir until the sugar dissolves completely. Cool sugar mixture completely. Stir in lime juice. Place the molds in their stand, then fill with lime mixture and place their caps on top. Freeze overnight or longer until frozen solid.

Update: 5/19/2010
I've notice some people think these are too large. Tovolo Freezer Jewel Pops, Set of 6are smaller and have ring holders. Better, I think, for smaller hands.

I'm still very happy with the big model. I came back to find my recipe. The original recipe makes too much for one batch so I'm going to try making half as much.

Key Lime Popsicles Half recipe
2 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup fresh Key lime juice or lime juice
