Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Tovolo Blue Rocket Pops, Set of 6Customer Review: Well-Made Popsicle Molds with a Few Minor Comments Summary: 5 Stars
These molds are very well-made, and my three-year-old son LOVES them. He likes the rocket ship shape and that we can make all sorts of flavors. Of course, I don't tell him that our home made treats are healthier than most of the ones you buy in the store (we usually just use fruit juice), and he's none the wiser - yet.
Here are some positives:
- They can be removed one at a time.
- Making popsicles at home us MUCH cheaper than purchasing them at a store.
- The base and molds are extremely sturdy (much sturdier than they look in the image on Amazon)
- The molds fit snugly into the base so they won't fall over.
- The tops of the molds snap on, so they will not fall off easily when putting the mold tray in the freezer.
- All parts are top rack dishwasher safe.
A few very minor negatives:
- The tops leak a tiny bit if you invert the molds before freezing, but then again, why would you do that?
- The top have handles that have a slight indentation that collects a tiny bit of water in the dishwasher, but if you wash them by hand or place them just so in the top rack, this isn't a problem.
And, a few tips:
- If you use plain fruit juice, be aware that freezing takes away some of the sweetness, which could be compensated by using juice that is slightly sweet than normal.
- Try using pudding instead of juice, or even pureed fruit, which is healthier than juice.
- Melted ice cream also works.
- To remove the popsicles from the molds, run them under hot running water for a few seconds, then give the molds a jiggle and a squeeze, and they will remove just fine.
All in all, these molds are wonderful, and we would definitely purchase them again.
Customer Review: Love the Nostalgia! Summary: 5 Stars
Today is Painfully hot. Brutally Hot. Record breakingly hot. Every air conditioner in town is sold out Hot (I kid you not). Patience are running ultra thin....what's a mom to do? Make popsicles! I just got these wonderful Tovolo popsicle molds this morning and my son is enjoying his first one (about four hours later) as I speak. Boy do they soothe the over-heated four year old beastie.
What I love about these, apart from their cool look (we got rockets and stars), is that you can control the ingredients. When your kid is already cranky, the last thing you want to do is add refined sugar to the equation, not to mention the toxic dyes and who-knows-what that you find in many commercial popsicles. We were in a rush, so we just put some organic strawberry, and mango lemonade in ours and they worked just fine, but I can see some brilliant potential. You could do coconut milk with fruit, green smoothie, pureed watermelon...the options are endless. They would also be great in the winter when your child is sick and won't eat.
Another thing I'm a stickler for--they are BPA free. There's no waste, you can use them over and over, and they are very well made. You can choose from different shapes and colors and they're packaged in a nice box which makes a gift-worthy presentation.
Customer Review: Makes Great Ice Pops Summary: 5 Stars
The Tovolo Blue Rocket Pop Molds makes delicious, easy to use ice pops. The plastic base simply holds the six ice pop molds vertically and firmly in your freezer until ready to use.
When I want an ice pop, about 5 hours after filling, I just take the ice pop mold with its plastic handle and insert it into a jar of hot water for a few seconds. Then I jiggle the handle to remove the ice pop from the mold -- the formed ice pop is attached to the plastic stick, which is the lower part of the plastic handle. The ice pop will then easily slip out of the mold.
Then with a big, "Aaah!" -- I get to enjoy whatever ice pop I have made.
NOTE: It is a good idea to hold a jar cover or something small under the ice pop, to catch the last bit of the ice pop, which usually falls off the plastic stick before getting to consume it.
The fact that I never have to keep buying ice pops sticks is a nice convenience, besides saving me money.

Customer Review: I'm buying MORE ! Summary: 5 Stars
I thought these were way too pricey, but I had promised my son a treat and he found these. They are the most awesome popsicle molds ever!
The popsicles they make are about twice as big as the flimsy molds you find for a buck or two. These molds are sturdy. They are dishwasher safe or easy to wash.
What's really great? There are six molds that attach to the base. So you can wash them as you use them and refill them one at a time if you want.
To get the popsicles out, run a little hot water over the outside, gently squeeze and tug and the popsicles will come right out. The fun rocket shape makes it even better. We like to put fruit juice and fresh or frozen fruit in the blender with just a tablespoon of sugar. Some fruits are a little tart when frozen and a tiny bit of sugar helps.
These molds have turned my son into a fruit lover. He used to not be interested, but now when we're at the grocery store, he tries all the samples trying to figure out which fruit would be best with which juice.
I'm buying more!
Customer Review: Love these Summary: 5 Stars
These are great. I thought I'd read a review that they were large, but they're the size of a regular pop IMO and my almost-4 year old has no problem eating all of it. They are messy, but all popsicles are for my preschooler. Great design in that you can take them out/refill them individually. Haven't had a problem w/ the plastic breaking but also haven't dropped it--freezing will weaken all glass and plastic. I've dropped and broken "unbreakable" Corelle dishes that way.
Love that I can make all-juice, corn syrup and dye- free ice pops.
Coming back to edit that I dropped them and the plastic did break. I"m still able to use 4 of them, so I do. I still maintain that this is a user error rather than a design flaw, so be careful not to drop them!
