*I ordered this Lodge Deep fryer & skillet 2 pc set(Tom Douglas)because it has a "greater amount of pre-seasoning" from the factory than the original Lodge set offered for just few $$$ less. The set was gloss black in color and you can definately see the factory seasoning process applied to these pans. I find the small difference in price well worth the benefit of not having to season them. It was a wise choice, they were ready for use "out of box". Just wash them with hot water and scrub it w/ nylon brush, dry and ready to use.
*I fried bacon in both pieces and let them get even more seasoned! Bacon fried perfectly crisp,then I fried eggs, they were perfect & did not stick to the pan at all! The taste of the food is much better than making them in my AllClad LTD2 fry pan which is high quality pan, but this set of Lodge (Tom Douglas) cookware cooks certain foods to enhance their natural flavors. Easy to clean, again just wash in hot water with nylon brush, rinse, dry and place them in your cabinet without stacking.
*The 3 1/2 qt. &(10" skillet lid)size is perfect for cooking for one or two, or even up to four people in family.
*I am going to use the deep skillet for deep frying which should take a little more than a quart of oil,therefore saving on oil useage. The deep pan has tapered sides & plenty of space so food will not get "steamed" while frying. The pans heat up quickly and save energy on my glass top stove. This 2 pc set is the only cast iron you will need that will meet almost 90% of your cooking needs. Saving you money and space. The best part, you can't see any stains on these pans,(they provide a "rustic look")like you can on stainless when frying. A definate + in keeping your pans looking good! I am glad I made this purchase.
