I made a large purchase of computer parts that arrived in the heavy clear plastic containers and dreaded opening the containers with scissors or a knife or box cutter. A friend offered me a smaller package opener that would have worked okay for occasional use but was too cumbersome for what I needed. I ordered the Open Smart Package Opener and it worked like a dream in opening the packages. It would have taken me days to open all those containers but only a few hours with the Open Smart Package Opener. I would love even better to have an all metal version of this opener though.Customer Review: Will cut through most clamshells

I've owned this gadget for about 6 months, and so far it's held up great. It will open most packages; however, it's a little stubborn on curved edges. Very handy, and safe since there is no exposed blade (it has a sliding lock, but that seems like a useless precaution). For right-handed use only.Customer Review: It works but...

It works but...I usually don't end up using it. It sort of just ends up on the bottom of my "random stuff" kitchen drawer. It's not the highest quality built product either: its pretty much just plastic w/a protected blade. It worked (sort of) on the first package I used it on. It had trouble with the corners of the package, so I had to cut those off with a scissors anyway--which defeats the purpose of this device. But the really troubling thing is that on the exact same packaging (of a second item I bought) it stopped working altogether. The little blade failed to even puncture through the clamshell plastic! It seems that the blade is too flimsy (or the cheaply-made plastic housing) to stand up to repeated use. It appears to slightly bend sideways when you squeeze the handle rather than puncturing through the plastic. Repeated attempts have all failed. If it cost more, I would have already returned it. Save your $8 and try a different clamshell opener!!!!!!!
