Customer Review: The best travel mug I've ever used, by far

Keeps my tea or coffee hot all morning, and warm even into the afternoon! My cheapo mugs don't come close. It is comfortable to hold and drink from. Twist the top to seal it, and it becomes absolutely spill proof, even if it falls! Just make sure you don't fill it past the line. I just combine coffee/tea with sugar, seal and shake, no mixing!
The base is small and fits every cup holder I've tried. Since it is leakproof, I put it in my backpack's cupholders without worry. It also comes with a clip, but since I don't need it I just removed it.
I might prefer a 16 or 18 oz model. I think Thermos chose 14 oz because the mug is already big, due to the high quality vacuum insulation. But 14 oz is usually satisfying, since my drink is piping hot. Also, if you seal the mug tightly, and then your drink cools, it can be hard to open, so I am careful to not seal it too tightly.

I have owned one of these mugs for over 12 years and have beat it up (dropped out the window on a highway, that is!), got it dirty, and overall treated it poorly. It still works great, but I wanted a new one for a spare. Keep it out of the automatic dishwasher to extend its life. If you are a heavy coffee drinker, you may want to take the rubber seal off and wash it by hand (this is extremely easy!). It lives up to its description of keeping hot liquids hot for about 4 hours (longer if you plan ahead and "pre-warm" the mug with hot water) and cold liquids cold for about 8 hours (you can pre-cool it for a lasting effect). You can truly tip this thing upside down, toss it in the air, and kick it around and you won't lose a single drop of liquid! Fits in all standard car cup holders.
Highly recommended for those on the run, in the field, on camping trips, or if you are clumsy like me and tend to drop and spill things a lot.

I got this as a gift for someone in our office that is notoriously bad at spilling coffee all over his cube/self. He raves (and not just to be polite) about it.
His comments:
Contours are excellent and comfortable.
Heat retention is spectacular (left outside in cool weather for hours, and still hot enough to almost burn his mouth).
The top is not metal, so no nasty teeth-clinking.
Can open the top to varying degrees to control the liquid dispension (which also helps cut down on spillage if it IS spilled while unlocked.
Openings on BOTH sides, so easier to drink from.
Does NOT spill at all when the lid is locked.
Fits perfectly in car cup holders.
So far, he hasn't spilled it at all, but we have a betting pool in place for when he does (although now, I think the pool will get much bigger).
I would highly recommend this for coffee drinkers.

I love this thermos mug. I had my last one for 15 years and due to dropping it too much and just plain wear and tear (used it extensively when traveling, work and just about everywhere I went as well in my home), I finally purchased a new one just because the old one was starting to look a bit worn although it still worked just fine and looked decent. I liked my old one so much in fact that I didn't want any other kind when I decided to get a new one. The new one seems to be of the same quality and looks as the old one which was a relief to me in this day and age when quality seems to be compromised just about everywhere now. It is well made, does what it's supposed to and looks good too. And leakproof it is. Being as busy as I am, I need a mug that I don't have to worry about. Purchased cup to replace an existing Nissan coffee cup (which has a thumb latch which allows user to operate the cup with one hand) which has been very good for the past 10+ years of service, however, it appears I need a new O-ring. New cup does not have a thumb latch which I really miss, however, the coffee cup, like all Nissan-Thermos products is very well manufactured. New cup comes with a top that screws down (like a regular thermos bottle)- you have to turn the top a half a turn to allow any liquids to come out of the cup - so this cup is not as user friendly as the old Nissan coffee cup. I use this cup in a Honda Odyssey and it fits the cup holder with no problems. New cup retains heat very well (unlike other coffee cups made by other brands) and is leak proof if the top is properly screwed down. If you like your coffee to stay hot - this is the cup to get. Strongly recommended.
