I read the other reviews before purchasing. I thought everyone was exaggerating about the greatness of this travel tumbler, but I decided to give it a try. Well, I have to say they're all telling the truth. It definitely keeps your beverage hot for several hours. (I haven't tried cold, yet.)
I brew my boiling hot tea around 8am, get to work by 8:30am, and have to take the lid off to let it cool a bit before I can take a sip because it's still scolding hot. 30 minutes of no temperature change probably isn't THAT impressive, but compared to my plastic-lined mug, I was amazed. The plastic-lined mug is usually lukewarm, beyond drinkable, by the time I get to work. The BEST part is with this tumbler, my tea is still drinkably warm at 11am! I just wish it came in a larger size because I usually drink it pretty fast, but temperature-wise it could last longer.
The design is also great. The lid is very simple with small holes all around the edge, which means you can just pick it up and drink. This might be a con for some people because there is no way to prevent spillage when dropped or bumped (no close valve). I haven't had a problem, though, and hope this lid is never modified. The simplicity makes it great. I also haven't had a problem with the lid leaking when drinking, due to a bad seal. It dripped once because perspiration got above the seal when the lid was resting at an angle on top to allow the beverage to cool. I just took the lid completely off, dried the area, and it was fine. Definitely user error.
I would recommend following the instructions and "prime" the cup with warm tap water for a few minutes before you pour a hot beverage into it. This warms up the interior (by heat transfer) before your actually beverage is poured into the tumbler, which keeps it warmer longer. (heat transfer: transition of thermal energy from a hotter object to a cooler object.) I've never tried it without "priming," but I would guess it would still stay warm for hours.
In person, the red plastic looks slightly more translucent than in the pictures. Still very nice, though.
All in all, a great product and recommended seller. I will definitely be buying more for myself or as gifts. Worth every penny!
