Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Thermos Nissan 10 Ounce Stainless Steel Food ContainerCustomer Review: Fantastic Summary: 5 Stars
I used to use this every day for lunch/dinner between long classes. It's surprisingly efficient and will keep something reasonably heated for half the day. From my experience, it will keep things hot longer the more fluid it is, but I liked to put things like lasagna and meatball/pasta with lots of sauce in there. Mmmm. Be sure to wash thoroughly, never put in the dishwasher, and gently clean the silicone O-ring. If you're worried about leaks, something I've never experienced as a student, just drop it in a big ziploc bag. The orange dimples on the Thermos Nissan version are indented, making the lid easier to remove. It also seems to be better quality in build than the plain "Thermos" food jar version.
P.S.: Always preheat (or precool) any steel insulated container with boiling water (or place in the fridge) for at least 15 minutes or so. When you put your hot food in, you will notice that the outside of the container exudes heat, especially through the cap. This is normal. The performance is much better this way.
Customer Review: This is an excellent product! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this jar with some reservations- would it keep foods hot for a long time? There is no lid that can be used as a cup- would that be a problem? Was it big enough to satisfy my need for a lunch-sized meal?
The answer is that this might be the perfect food container. Despite it's sleek appearance (love this!) it does keep food hot for hours. Although there isn't a lid that can be used as a cup, this is not a problem, an the jar has a nice wide mouth. A typical spoon or fork can easily reach the bottom, or for beverages, isn't too wide to drink directly out of. It has a nice 10 oz. capacity, and fits nicely in any paper lunch sack, or backpack, purse, etc. So far, we have not experienced any leaks at all, and the lid screws on and off easily. I am considering purchasing another one of these stainless steel food containers, as I seriously think it might be perfect in form and function.
No Regrets!
Customer Review: Truly well insulated Summary: 5 Stars
I have been looking for a long time for an insulated container that really retains heat. Most of them don't work well - but this one does.
I did a careful test comparing this to another typical 10oz stainless food contained that is supposed to be vacuum insulated. I pre-heated both with 172 degree hot water, then filled each with more hot water and verified the water in each was 172 degrees. Then I closed both and left them on the counter (68 degrees) for 3 hours. After three hours, the water in the other one was only 97 degrees, while the water in this one was still hot at 133 degrees. That's a huge difference. This one will actually keep your hot lunch hot.
Customer Review: World's best soup container Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this container after I took vegetable soup in its supermarket container to work, and the lid came loose. (My bag FINALLY stopped smelling of vegetable soup a month later.) It is great. I like soup piping hot, so I usually take my soups, beans, chili, and other more liquid lunch items cold, then microwave at work. However, just to see how well the container held heat, I did heat at home first a few times, and I was impressed with its performance. Even many hours later, my food was still hot enough to be enjoyable. The container is also easy to clean, absolutely leakproof, and resistant to food stains or lingering food aroma. Great, great lunch container.
Customer Review: worth it Summary: 5 Stars
This is a good looking, solid, and effective product.
10 OZ is nice, as you can load a full cup of food without overloading it.
I've been using it for brown rice. After five hours it's warm, not hot. The rice was not boiling hot to begin with, and not tightly packed. This is not a problem for me. I imagine soupy foods would be hotter.
I like this better than the slightly cheaper version by Thermos from the big box store, the one where the plastic kind of dips down on each side. I had a few of those. They were fine, but this one has a more expensive look and seems a bit roomier.
