Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Thermos Element 5 16-Ounce Leak-Proof Food Jar

Customer Review: Amazing soup keeper
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this because I haven't been able to find anything like it in the stores (Walmart, Target, KMart, Bed Bath & Beyond) that I've checked. I heated up some split pea soup the first morning at 7 am, and heated water in a kettle too. I poured the water from the kettle into the thermos to warm it up, then dumped that out and added the soup. I put it into my "built" tote and went to school (nursing school). At 12 I went to eat my soup but it was still very hot! So, I ate the rest of my lunch and left it for later. I put it the lid back on and at 3:30 opened it back up for a snack and it was just right - still warm but not hot. I thoroughly recommend this! I go to school an hour away from home and can't afford to eat out. This helped me immensely to be able to bring my own food. Great product!!! And I haven't had any problems with leakage either plus I washed it in the dishwasher...

Customer Review: Great thermos for the money that actually works
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this thermos. I got it because I hated fighting over the microwave at school during lunch time.

This thermos is best for soups, but is very good for other hot foods as well. The key is to heat up the thermos first with boiling water. I leave the hot water in the thermos for 5-10 minutes prior to filling with food. Then I get the food I am filling, as hot as possible before adding it to the thermos. I've had no problems with my lunch being hot 4-5 hours later. In fact soups, are usually too hot to eat at first.

In the case of heating up individual frozen meals to use in your thermos, I discovered that if you leave a little bit of the hot water in the thermos before adding the food, it keeps the food hotter and doesn't effect the flavor of the food.

Customer Review: great thermos
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this thermos for my 6 year old son to take to school for lunch. He doesn't always like to take sandwiches. One morning, my neighbor ran over my kids backpacks with their lunches inside. Needless to say, juice boxes, sandwiches, and everything else were completely flattened. But, my son's thermos escaped with only two small dents in the side and the bottom popped off, but didn't break. The interior of the thermos remained intact. In fact after my husband sealed the plastic bottom back on, it remained usable. If this thermos can take being run over by a mini-van, it could handle anything! I can also tell you that I boil water and put it inside the thermos before putting hot food in it. It seems to help to heat up the steel first and keeps the food hotter longer.

Customer Review: a great investment
Summary: 5 Stars

This thermos worked well for keeping soup very hot for my daughter's school lunch. Just fill it with boiling water for 10 minutes, then dump out the water and fill it with hot soup. The soup was still very hot 5 hours later at lunchtime and the leftover soup was still warm when she returned home from school 8 hours after filling the thermos. I have not been able to find anything comparable in any of the department stores. Although I had originally considered the price to be a bit high, I now consider it a bargain after I was able to see how well it worked and how much my daughter loves having hot soup for lunch and not having to wait in the microwave line at school.

Customer Review: Very good thermos
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered 2 of these for my kids, one is 16 the other 11. They both love them. We make a lot of homemade soup and they like to take it to school for lunch. They are rugged and work very well. The soup is still very hot at the kids lunch hours, so much so that the 11 yr old has asked that his soup not be heated up to high to start. Even after a full day at school if they bring any home it is still warm. I thought at 1st they were a little pricey but now that we have used them for awhile, i think it was well worth it. The opening is large so you can pour things in with out making a mess. It will hold a whole can of soup as well. I am glad we made the purchase.
