Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Thermos E10500 16-Ounce Leak-Proof Travel Mug

Customer Review: i love this leakproof mug!
Summary: 5 Stars

i have become somewhat of a self-ordained travel mug expert. i require that my mug
A) hold at least 16 oz. of fluid
B)keep it hot til the last drop over 2 hours
C)be easy to clean
D) be absolutely leak-proof
E) be ergonomically designed to fit my hand and face comfortably, as well as be flexible in ways to put it safely in my car
F) be stainless steel inside and out

this mug does all of this, plus it can take a beating! (which would be good for my partner, who leaves his on the side of the truck and drives off sometimes)
i have been thru a lot of leak-proof mugs. none have covered all these points. while it is true that the mug base is bigger that my drink holders in my civic, i blame honda more than the thermos. however, the handle is great for hanging on the side of my open 'stuff' compartment in front of the gear shifter, and hangs ok so it doesn't bother a passenger's legs. all in all, a winner, and i am ordering 2 more, one for hubby and one for tea.

Customer Review: Best mug I could find
Summary: 5 Stars

I have tried several coffee mugs, and the Thermos E5 is the all around best for me. It fits in my car cupholder. It keeps coffee / tea hot longer than any other mug I've tried, and the lid is the best design I've seen. The lid screws on, and when screwed tight, seals the mug such that it won't leak even if turned upside down. WIth a slight turn the gasket lifts off the seal, and you can drink through the lid, which has small openings 360 degrees around...hard to describe but works great and is easy to clean. A couple other products I own and moved away from are:

MiGo: Nice large capacity, but poor insulator and coffee cools quickly.

Timolino 20 oz. @tanium II Vacuum Travel Mug: Great insulator, almost as good as the Thermos E5, but it is huge. It's about 1 inch shorter than the Thermos, and much wider. Much of the extra volume is the insulating space between the inner and outer s/s surfaces. It won't fit in my cupholder, and is fairly heavy and uncomfortable to hold.

Customer Review: Almost indestructible
Summary: 5 Stars

A lot of people have written about the heat maintaining quality of the Thermos E5 mug, so I won't beat a dead horse. Last night, I drove out of my garage, forgetting that I had left the mug on the back bumper of my truck. I was heart broken to find it missing the next morning, and had to settle for a slightly less expensive, but inferior substitute for my morning tea. I saw the bottom rubber base on the way out of the neighborhood and wrote the mug off as a flattened mess. What a surprise I got on my way home, when I saw it laying in the gravel a few feet off the road by the base. I jumped out of the truck and found a dented, scarred and scratched mug. Taking it home, I washed it, fit the base back on (I'll have to glue it on with some liquid nails later) and put my tea water in it. Viola!, still keeps the water as hot as ever. I really love the ability to screw the lid down all the way and throw it in my back pack like a regular thermos and open it up hours later to hot tea or coffee.

Customer Review: Its da bomb!
Summary: 5 Stars

If you, like me, want to sip a piping hot liquid (in my case, herbal tea) for several hours during a busy workday (I'm a teacher), and you need to carry that liquid around without the risk of spilling it, or dribbling it, you've found what you're looking for. Its macho styling (complete with rocket fins) notwithstanding, this mug is brilliant. The design of the lid is superb. A counterclockwise twist opens it and allows you to sip from any direction, and another quick twist seals it tight. You know how typical travel mugs have a little air hole in the lid that sometimes gets obstructed by the liquid, making the contents reluctant to come out when you take a sip (unless you clear the obstruction, which can appear pretty comical, or tilt the mug way up, risking a mouthful of burning liquid in your gullet)? This doesn't happen with this mug. Only downside is that this mug doesn't fit in car mug holders, so its not great for car use. But for on the job, it rocks.

Customer Review: Best mug I've ever had
Summary: 5 Stars

This mug is great - it's a true vacuum mug, so my coffee stays hot as long as I want (I'm a sipper), yet all stainless so it never breaks. I was a little worried at first at it's sort of "low tech" design, but I realized after use that it was in fact a very high tech design. Unlike every other travel mug I've seen, it has no complex parts that are hard to clean and can break or get lost. I use it exclusively at work where I don't have access to a dishwasher or a place to disassemble and clean a mug of complex design - you know, they're always getting nasty around the parts you can't get access to... But this one is a phenomenally simple design that relies only on a single silicone gasket that is easy to clean with no disassembly (other than taking the top off) and it's clean in moments after running it under flowing water and a light rub-a-dub with your fingertips. It's never spilled. HIGHLY recommended.
