Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Thermos E10500 16-Ounce Leak-Proof Travel Mug

Customer Review: This is the one.
Summary: 5 Stars

If you're looking for an insulated coffee mug, stop searching and click "Add to Cart".

Still reading? Ok, as many others have noted, it will keep your coffee hot all day, it's durable, and the 360 top is just like drinking out of a regular coffee cup. In fact, I use it as my regular desk mug. With this mug, there's no need for an energy-sucking electric coffee warmer, and you won't end up throwing out cold coffee. If I get distracted by a problem or called away to a meeting, my coffee's still hot when I get back to my desk.

It is a little large for many cup holders, but I don't use it in my car. It seals up tight with no leaks while I'm on the road, and it does fit in the hydration pocket of my Maxpedition JUMBO(tm) VERSIPACK, which is designed for a 32 oz. water bottle.

The only change I would make is removing the handle, which isn't really necessary as the body of the mug never gets too hot to hold. And Thermos also offers the Thermos E5 16-oz. Travel Tumbler, which is the same thing without the handle.

Customer Review: I carry it everywhere
Summary: 5 Stars

I love the carabiner that comes with it.

Although some people probably think it looks silly ... I don't care.

My coffee mug is dangling from my backpack as I walk down the street to get to uni.

And I know within myself that I am a better person than all those Starbucks people, who throw away their cups every day.

What a waste!

Me, on the other hand, I am an environmentalist with balls.

And how much money am I saving?

At least $3-$6 a day; my coffee is ground and brewed before I leave the house and I have warm coffee all day.

The size of the mug is just right; I wouldn't want to drink more coffee than 16oz per day and it stays warm for at least 6-8 hours.

The amazing thing is that the coffee stays PERFECTLY warm, i.e., at the RIGHT DRINKING TEMPERATURE for at least 3 hours. After that and before that, it's obviously a little too hot or a little too warm.

All in all, the best coffee mug I have ever had. And I've had at least 10.

Thanks Thermos-people, you've made a killer product. I love you.

Customer Review: A Better Drinking Experience
Summary: 5 Stars

After my Starbucks Chubby style mugs handle broke off the stainless steel exterior, which took several years, I tried replacing it with the same excellent product. They don't seem to manufacture this one anymore, so I ordered the Bodum Stainless Steel Vacuum Travel Mug with Silicone Grip from Amazon. It's a sleek looking mug, nice to the touch, but did not keep my coffee hot for very long, especially compared to the Starbucks thermal mug. I read the various reviews of other thermal mugs and decided to go with the Thermos E5 16 ounce leak proof Travel Mug. I received it yesterday and couldn't be more pleased. The top screws down to create a leak proof, heat holding seal. When the seal is loosened a bit you can drink from any direction (a new experience for me with a travel mug) and it feels lighter to the touch than the Bodum and Starbucks mugs. My only concern is about the rubber washer in the lid. I don't know if you can order spare parts from Thermos, but it may be a good idea to have an extra on hand for the eventuality of losing the original. Amazon got this to me quickly and is taking back the Bodum mug without question.

Customer Review: The best mug I have ever found
Summary: 5 Stars

This is by far the best mug I have ever owned. I have tried OXO, Stanley, Contigo, and other name brand mugs and this one beats them all. If you want a simple mug that has excellent heat/cold retention and does not leak, then look no further. Don't get me wrong, the brands I mentioned are great but they all seemed to lack in their own way. The OXO leaked and so did my Stanley Outdoor model, but my Contigo didn't. The Contigo downfall was the lid is very hard to clean and even after five minutes of cleaning it, it was still dirty. The Thermos lid is simple to clean as long as you have a bottle brush, which could be picked up just about anywhere.

If you want a mug without a handle, like I do, all you have to do is cut through the soft rubber and spread the metal apart. Mine worked out great. Yes, I could have bought the other Thermos Element 5 with just the clip, but it costs and extra 10 bucks. I am going to put a cord around the indentation and add the carabiner that came with the bottle so that I could attach it to my backpack.

Don't hesitate on buying this product, you will not be disappointed.

Customer Review: As Good as it Gets
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a fantastic mug, and as a teacher, I've used quite a few. With my previous thermos mug (which is not available), I often found myself knocking it over and spilling green tea all over my students' papers. Needless to say, they were not often happy to receive their essays riddled with green splotches on the corners!

This cup, with its broad base, is very difficult to tip over. As long as you tighten the lid after each sip, you won't be worrying about spilling anyway. I love being able to sip hot tea throughout the morning.

The base of the cup is quite wide, but I love the way it looks. It does not fit in my Scion XA holder so I clip it to the pocket on the side of the door and it works fine. For me, this is a small price to pay for having a desk that is free of tea stains. Let me tell you, my students were quite happy to see me with a new mug.

I've always been weary of travel mugs. They leak, don't keep the drink hot, or a button breaks off. This thing's tough and I hope to have it for years to come.
