Customer Review: Donut machine modifications
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased a Do-nu-matic before reading the reviews. Mine actually worked for about 2 hours and made small mini donuts...then as the batter thickened in the mixing bowl the donuts became small blobs. I had tried different batter thickness from thin to thick and it seems the problem is not keeping the plunger open on the dispenser long enough. When I pressed the plunger by hand for about 2-3 seconds it produced perfect donuts. I took the machine apart and am in the process of modifying it. I built a timing circuit using a 555 IC and a potentiometer to vary the time a linear actuator will hold the plunger down. The rotary cam and motor they use in the machine was totally removed and a magnetic solenoid is to be the replacement. The circuit board can fit over the plug on the inside but I am worried about the heat buildup on the circuit board. I mounted the board on the outside of the machine and put a red LED on top of the swing away part to indicate when the plunger is activitated. I can vary the time from .5 sec. to about 6 seconds by turning the knob. I am waiting for the actuator to arrive then we will see the results. I also figured out a way to adjust the speed of the motor to let the donuts cook completely. I'll write the results as soon as I complete the installation.

Customer Review: Piece of Junk... Class Action Ready
Summary: 1 Stars

This item was a Christmas present. It literally was broken out of the box. The first time I tried to use it, the conveyor belt spoon got stuck on the flipper and jammed. I called the manufacturer (Nostalgia Electrics / Helman Group) of this item, and they conveniently told me that this item is discontinued and there is no warranty available.

Retailers should be ashamed of even carrying this item in their store. It is a $$$ rip-off.

I wish someone was start a class action lawsuit against the manufacturer; because they are a bunch of frauds selling junk!!!

Customer Review: worthless junk
Summary: 1 Stars

We got one of these as a Christmas gift, and it is very nice-looking. However, that is the only good thing that I can say about it. It is enormous and would take up a huge amount of cabinet space to store. The conveyor belt jumped its track the first (and only) time that we used it, rendering the unit useless. The directions are vague. Even by the pictures on the box and in the manual, the donuts that are supposed to be produced are smaller than mini donuts that you would purchase in the store.

Customer Review: the Donumatic is dumbomatic!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

This is the worst piece of machinery I have ever purchased. We should have known when right off the bat we had to repair the electric connection. It took forever for the set up and then my doughnuts came out like greasy thin onion ring donuts. We adjusted the dough and started to push them out manually then they actually started to look like a doughnut. But, then the machine broke right in the middle our cooking! The whole process took about 3 and half hours of my life that I will never get back. I am sure glad my husband and I attempted it before we got the kids all excited about the prospect of homemade doughnuts. The worst thing is I cannot find my receipt to return the donumatic so now I am stuck with it! Do not buy this product whatever you do!!!!Go to the doughnut shop or better yet just handmake them yourself!

Customer Review: As bad as everyone said
Summary: 1 Stars

I read the reviews and hoped against hope that by strictly following instructions I could make it work. I was very strict, but not only were the first few doughnuts weirdly shaped, but after about three doughnuts, one of the 'flippers' on the conveyor belt bent, and the whole thing ground to a halt. The only good thing, really, was the return policy of the vendor through Amazon - they sent a postage-paid return label and took it right back through the Post Office.

Such a disappointment, and I can't find any other brand to buy
