Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Talisman Designs Cherry Chomper Cherry PitterCustomer Review: WASTE OF MONEY Summary: 1 StarsI had 20# of sweet cherries to pit and dry for the winter. My antique pitter has a bent shaft and is hard on my fingers when it hangs up. I bought a Cherry Chomper and couldn't wait to try it. It was more time-consuming to position the cherry, the large pits wouldn't go through the hole into the container, and the container doesn't hold many pits that do go through before it needs emptying. If you have a pound of cherries and they are the small, tart variety and/or you want to entertain a child for a while with a kitchen job, and if you have room to store a single purpose implement in your kitchen (I don't), then this might be for you. I went back to my antique that fits in my silverware drawer and cut the time by 75%.
Customer Review: Worth the Money!! Summary: 5 StarsMy wife bought this to use for pitting 4 lbs. of cherries for preserves. It pitted everything very easily except the really large cherries. It did not catch all the juice but her hands are not as stained as if she did these by hand. She really likes this item and highly recommends it.
Customer Review: Wonderful Summary: 5 StarsTrue, cherries get mashed and mushed in a pie, but for perfect looking cherries that are pitted, this is our favorite. Easy to use and easier to clean. Works well with olives, too!
Customer Review: It's cute AND it works! Summary: 4 StarsMy grandson likes cherries. Last year, his dad would bite one in half and hand him the part without the pit. I was kind of grossed out by this. When I saw this in a catalog, I looked to see if it was on Amazon and decided to give it a try. I stayed with my grandson today and he wanted some cherries. They hadn't taken this out of the box, so I first used a knife to cut them. BIG MESS! I got out the Cherry Chomper and quickly put it to work. I had to learn to press firmly to push the pit all the way through. In fact. I kind of slammed my hand down on the plunger. This caused my grandson to blink. I noticed he started blinking in anticipation! LOL! The Cherry Chomper worked beautifully when the plunger was firmly pressed. It did not tear up the cherry. There was a hole from the pit coming out, but other than that, it looked like a fresh cherry. It was also very easy to clean. I'm sure there are other cherry pitters that work as well, but this one is also cute!
