Although this billed as a cheese server, it makes a most excellent salt server. There are models without the handle, but the handle makes if so easy to use. I not only think Alton Brown's "Good Eats" is the best cooking show on T.V., but I'm also a total sucker for cute gadgets and this one fit the bill! After seeing Alton use one many times, I had to have one. I purchased mine at Linens 'n Things and absolutely love it. It's not only adorable, but indespensibly functional. We use unprocessed salt called "Real Salt" and it keeps the salt clean and prevents it from forming lumps. I also use Kosher salt for tasks such as boiling pasta. I'm so enthused about this wonderful salt server that all of my family and my husband's sister are getting one for Christmas. Since Linens 'n Things is going out of business, I was delighted to find them on Amazon.
