I love the Sunbeam hot shot. It is great for single mugs of hot chocolate, instant soup, broth, instant cappuccino, coffee or tea. The green tea problem is solved by heating the water, remove mug from hot shot, add a tiny bit of cold water, stir it, add green tea bags. No big deal really.
It does heat faster than a microwave. It also turns off automatically so you don't have to worry about leaving it on. If you have a small office and don't want to use space for a stand or counter top water dispenser this is perfect. Much cheaper too. Takes up much less space than a microwave. I keep bottles of water, since I don't have a sink, in my office stored in a supply cabinet. The hot shot can easily be stored out of sight or permanently on a shelf--taking up little room.
A two cup, glass measuring cup purchased at a dollar store is perfect for the water to be dispensed into. That way you can pour the hot water into a travel mug with the tea bags, cocoa, etc. if you want to.

I bought the Sunbeam Hot Shot to make hot beverages in my dorm room. It heats the water quite fast (usually only takes maybe a minute for the maximum amount of water) and makes it really hot without boiling. It's perfect for teas, coffee, hot chocolate, cider, anything! It's quiet, compact, and lightweight. It's also easy to use. Pour in the water, plug it in, and press "on." When the light goes off, unplug and press "dispense." It's that simple. Normal sized mugs will fit underneath, but larger ones will not. I knew this before I bought it and it almost made me not purchase the hot shot. Do not let this deter you! This is a FANTASTIC appliance and you should just spend an extra few dollars to buy a pyrex glass measuring cup if you are like me and absolutely HAVE to use your favorite, over-sized mug. This item is awesome! It would be nice if it was a little taller, but otherwise great!
It takes right at 1 minute and 30 seconds to finish it's heating cycle - and it's REALLY, steaming hot! That's a lot faster than boiling water on the stove or in the microwave!
The reservoir holds 16oz - so this might not be what you want if you're looking for something to "feed a family".
The open area where you put your cup in to receive the hot water is about 5 inches high. It's a little less than 5 inches.
And the best part - the price is under $20! Can't beat it! :)

I probably use the Hot Shot more than any other appliance except the microwave. A million years ago they had a model which was just the heating pot rather than on a stand (it had a little handle on the side and you poured the water from a lip on the other side) which was easier to pack for traveling, but the stand model is easier to use.
You can save a lot of money while traveling with a water heater and stuff like instant oatmeal, Cup o' Noodles and other instant convenience foods. The Hot Shot heats water so fast it really isn't a problem heating extra water for "cooking" for two.

My wife and I were very pleased with the quickness of this order. It is just what the doctor ordered for heating up a cup of hot water for coffee, tea, hot chocolate, etc. Don't order this if you are planning on heating up a large cup of hot water as the cup will not fit under to receive the water. I just measured my largest cup that will just fit under to receive hot water and it stands at 4 1/4 inches. That's it! It heats the water very rapidly and very hot. We love it. We got the black model. Could not find this in any store that we frequent. That is why we love Amazon.
