Customer Review: hot water
Summary: 4 Stars

This machine is fast and cost a fraction of the price of other hot water despensers.

Customer Review: Doesn't Last long
Summary: 3 Stars

As a constant tea drinker, I have used hot water heaters like this for many years, but they have been by Black and Decker. Those lasted many years, even when I found used ones at thrift stores, I got 4-5 years out them. They have gone up in price so I decided to take a shot at this Sunbeam. But like all good brand names I remember from my childhood, apparently new people running the company are more into quick profit than a quality product. This item was half the weight of the Black and Decker so it slid all over the counter when I used it or pushed the ON button on the top. I would use it several times a day for tea and twice daily to defrost my cat's frozen raw food portions. This was nothing for the Black and Decker personal coffee maker/water heaters, but this flimsy thing started not turning ON after 5-6 mos. I would wait and try it again and sometimes got it to work. I bought it late January 2010 and yesterday (Dec 8, 2010) the ON switch was completely dead. I hope it's got at least a 1-year warranty... If you want something cheap for a short period, it works great and heats the water very hot for tea or instant coffee, but if you want something that will last over a year, don't waste your money.

Customer Review: It does what it claims, but...
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased one of these in black for use in my shop and one in white as a gift for my mom.

The one that I am using daily has a small defect that may prove to be a quirk of the one I received or a broader defect that you may encounter.

The dispensing valve allows a small amount of water to leak out of the tank. The base of the unit then simply allows the water to run off and onto whatever it is sitting on. I solved this by simply laying a rag over the bottom. The water evaporates from the rag faster than the leak.

The only other issue is that the bottom is not open like it's predecessor. This does not allow for the filling of taller mugs or some soup bowl prepared foods.

All and all, it functions the way in need and is priced reasonable for what you get.

Customer Review: Good heat, but too small
Summary: 3 Stars

This is a good quality product, it truly is. The problem I have with it lies in the fact that I bought it online rather than seeing it in a store. I use tall travel coffee cups which are pretty standard these days, so I had erroneously assumed that this model would accommodate them. That was my fault. While the Sunbeam does heat water quickly and to a good temperature, it is a big inconvenience to have to use a small coffee mug to transfer the water to my travel mug. It is also too small for me to slide my teapot under, meaning I have the same problem of transferring the hot water from cup to pot.
If you only use regular size coffee mugs this will be fine. If you're more fond of over-sized mugs or travel mugs - I'd advise investing in a different model.

Customer Review: not as good as the 3211
Summary: 3 Stars

I've owned hot shots for over 20 years, replacing them when it begins to take a bit longer for the water to heat. This new design is disappointing: the plastic is flimsier, which makes it feel like it could tip over more easily. It has a larger footprint, so takes up more counterspace, though capacity is the same. It took longer to heat water that my ten-year old 3120 model. The ON button is now at the rear of the unit, which initially seemed like a good plan so one doesn't get heating and dispensing confused (a messy mistake)--but that also means it's hard to reach, especially where I keep my hot shot, under cupboards. Sunbeam, you messed up a great little appliance.
