Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Sunbeam 3911 4-Slice Wide Slot Toaster, BlackCustomer Review: only toasts one side! Summary: 2 Stars
This unit has a bagel feature that allows you to toast only one side. Unfortunately, whether the feature is on or off the toaster only toasts on side. I am returning it for something else. I like the stop toasting feature.
Customer Review: Not likely to every buy a Sunbeam product again Summary: 1 Stars
I bought the Sunbeam 3911 toaster after accidentally getting a toaster popup stuck between the toaster wall and the wire basket on my old toaster (the 2-slice Sunbeam 3910). When I tried to clean the toaster I caused one of the heating wires to bow away from the inside piece it is wrapped around. I got the Sunbeam 3911 home and glanced inside it only to see one wire, approximately half an inch long, sticking straight out towards the wire basket and another piece of wire that looked like it had been sticking out but then been pressed down flat. I also saw several spots where the wire was bowed away from the piece it wraps around - not as far as I had accidentally pulled the wire on my old toaster but it definitely didn't look right. I also noticed that instead of wrapping the wire from the notch on one side of the inner piece to the corresponding notch on the other side, there were several places where they jumped up a notch or two and the wire was at an angle causing a big gap between some of the wires. It may be cheaper for Sunbeam to use less wire, but I think it also explains why people using this toaster have problems with their bread toasting unevenly. I checked my old toaster and it was that way too, which explains why toast made in my old Sunbeam toaster had some areas that looked toasted and others that didn't. I have since taken the Sunbeam 3911 toaster back and purchased a different brand.
Customer Review: worst toaster in 52 years of marriage Summary: 1 Stars
One star rating is too high. Positive reviews of this toaster a year ago influenced my decision to purchase it. Wrong decision !! Many negative comments in recent months have outdone anything positive. This toaster makes me yearn for the old "flip 'em" toasters of my childhood. My toaster now has failed inner coils ( both slots). From the beginning, the results were uneven and at times unpredictable. The highest setting would not produce what I would call toast ( and I do not like it overdone), but the next time, the highest setting would produce burned toast. The lower to mid settings did nothing. I would say there is an inconsistency between the settings and the expected results. I should have sent this toaster back, however as I used it only 2-4 times a week, I just put up with it..and am sorry now because I really do not have a toaster. In the 1950s, I learned in a college course that companies sent a percentage of defective items as part of an order going to discount houses, less expensive stores because they believed that people would not bother to return the poor item because they had paid the lower price. Amazon, take this toaster off of your website.
Customer Review: uggh......... Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this toaster to replace my old GE toaster that I purchased from Walmart for about 15 bucks 5 years ago (it finally just died). I got this toaster after the delivery service apparently didn't route it correctly and the delivery date was pushed back (I have prime, should have been here in 2 days), however that has nothing to do with this rating. The only setting this one has seems to be burnt, it does not matter if I choose 1 or 7 it burns everything. Also, I can't use both sides at the same time, I think it must have a fuse in it that keeps tripping every time I try to use both sides. I am sending it back to Amazon and having them send me another one, I am hoping that this was just a bad toaster and that it has nothing to do with the design, if the second one is fine I will come back and update the review.
Customer Review: Friends don't let friends buy this toaster Summary: 1 Stars
I am throwing this toaster out today, after having owned it for slightly longer than one month. It seemed to be fine for about the first week. After that, the timer started working intermittently, so that every once in a while, but with increasing frequency, what ever was in the thing would simply burn to a crisp. More recently, it started toasting unevenly, so that half the bread or bagel would be quite dark and the other half would look like it had never been in a toaster. I went out and bought a 4 slice Cuisinart toaster, which is what I should have done to begin with. It is considerably more money, but at least it works.
