Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker Knife Sharpener 204MFCustomer Review: Makes a great edge easy! Summary: 5 Stars
This sharpener is what the local knife shop uses to sharpen customer knives, and they charge 5 dollars per knife. I bought this sharpener because it does give an incredible edge. If you buy the optional rods for it, the Diamond rods (which remove metal quickly, and give you a nice angle to polish) and the ultra fine rods (these give you an edge that split hairs and shave paper)you can get superior results. The key to using this sharpener is to hold the knife perpendicular to the table, and running it down the rods, just like you would with a crock stick. The sharpmaker can sharpen just about anything you want, from re edging an old straight razor, to sharpening scissors, and of course, for sharpening straight and serrated edge knives. A little practice, and you will see professional results in no time.
Customer Review: Simply ingenious - buy one now! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm somewhat of a knife guy, and have owned a few Spyderco knives over the past 10 years and have been impressed with their design and build quality. I've heard several people over the years rave about the Sharpmaker, but I never took the plunge because I felt that my previous sharpening methods worked well enough. (I've used most popular sharpening methods.)
My wife got me a Sharpmaker as a gift, and all I can say is that this thing is ingenious! It is extremely well designed and versatile. By now, you've probably read several reviews praising the Sharpmaker, so I'm not going to restate what's already been said. My only regret is that I didn't buy a Sharpmaker several years ago. Spend the time to read the instructions and watch the video. Good luck!
Customer Review: Beauty In Simplicity Summary: 5 Stars
The Sharpmaker is well named. I have tried very hard to make my Lansky Deluxe system work but only got fair results at best. I used the Sharpmaker on a knife I had very carefully sharpened on the Lansky and saw an immediate and profound improvement. I am an engineer and was drawn to the Lansky angle control system believing that I would have best control with this system. However, in practice, the Sharpmaker gives outstanding results quickly and easily. You literally will be able to get your knives sharper than when they were new and unused. Very few products deliver on the level of the Sharpmaker. Great product. Sharpens more than just knives as well. Watch the DVD as soon as you get it. Then you'll want to sharpen everything in the house. You'll be hooked.
Customer Review: Knife Sharpener Summary: 5 Stars
I bought my first Spyderco about 33 yrs ago. I did like it a lot but It did not have the 30 and 40 degrees slots. I do not recall which one it had as I cannot find the shaperner at this time. I quit it using because I had dropped one of the coarse gray stones and it broke. So the sharpener was not much use anymore. After a few years of not having a knife sharpener I decided to look up Spyderco on the internet for a replacement stone. I saw their new model that had the two different angle 30 degree and 40 degree slots which made it more versatil. This is what I wanted so I decided to purchase this instead of buying a single new stone for the single angle sharpener I purchased years ago.
I really like this model for it's versatility.
Customer Review: Great and Simple Summary: 5 Stars
This comes with everything you need and more(a long instructional video) but why not. Sharpens knife very fast and very well. The ceramic rods work perfectly. They get dirty (steel marks) but are easily cleaned.
Process: Set up, edge dark rod, flat dark rod, edge white rod, flat white rod, pack up.
Pros:
-Spyderco(trustworthy)
-Portable:Lightweight and small (not too small though)
-Triangle ceramic rods (allows you to sharpen serrated edges: haven't tried this yet)
-sockets on bottom for 2 rods to lay flat to create a sharpening stone: haven't tried this yet, but it is a good feature
-Hand guards: Better safe than sorry
Cons:
-none so far...very pleased
