Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker Knife Sharpener 204MFCustomer Review: nice and quick, no mess no guess Summary: 5 Stars
works great, no oil or water needed. 20 passes on each stone and I almost reduced my finger count to 9 (due to sloppy opening of a just sharpened pocket knife - no fault of the product). The triangle stone design allows you to sharpen any blade, from serrated to scissors and the groove works on hooks and steel darts, etc. Comes with instructional DVD and booklet. Everything packs into the base and cover snaps on tight for easy storage or carry in a backpack. I also purchased the ultra fine stones (they are sold individually so buy 2), which i probably didn't need, the stones included in the orignal kit get a blade sharp enough to shave with. Base positions stone rods at either 40 or 30 degrees and can also hold rods so they can be used as a flat stone. Great product, i will be purchasing more for gifts.
Includes:
2 coarse stone rods
2 fine stone rods
2 brass safety guard rods
1 base
1 cover
1 instructional DVD
1 instructional booklet
Customer Review: Best I had Summary: 5 Stars
Well packaged, came with mini book and DVD to make sure the product is used correctly. After watching the DVD I tried to sharpen several knifes.
I started with 3" Shustoff, I followed dirrections and that was easy. The knife is sharp (tested by shaving my hand).
Next one was 8" 10 years old serrated kitchen knife (did not know it can be sharpenned). Followed instruction and about 5-10 minutes later I have sharp knife.
Sharpened my Spyderco Endura with great results - I shaved half of my hand testing :)
The only challange is to sharpen very old fillet knife. It is hard to sharpen very tip of the knife because it is more flexible. I think wit more practice and by doing it on regular bases it should not be an issue.
I did not try to sharpen any other creazy things this sharpener can bring to life - hooks, tools, router bits etc.
I have several friends using same sharpener and they all like results.
Customer Review: Foolproof Sharpener Summary: 5 Stars
The Spyderco Tri-Angle sharpener is the best I've owned. It is thoughfully designed, with all components storing neatly in the carrying case. It is essentially a crock stick sharpener on steroids. No clamping of blades, no holding blades at odd angles. If you can hold a knife blade vertical you can put a sharp edge on any knife. It will also do scissors and other tools but for most people it will primarily be used on knives. Although the manufacturer recommends using the flat side of the stones, I am always in a hurry and so prefer the more agressive cutting of the edge. There are lots of cheaper sharpeners, but this is a quality product built to last a lifetime. One word of advice- when you are finished sharpening all the kitchen knives, put a note on the counter cautioning your spouse. It might prevent needless nicks or worse.
Customer Review: Easy to Learn Summary: 5 Stars
To see the plain knife instructions from the video search for this on YouTube: VWL1UsppIeA I saw warnings about the long complicated instructions for this "sharpening system" that made me leery and I'm very comfortable reading instructions. But don't worry about the learning curve. The length of the instructions is due to the fact that you can sharpen anything with this including nail clippers and potato peelers. For a plain edge knife it's two pages, most of which is pictures. It's a fantastic tool. The video is fabulous but you don't need to watch it to use the sharpener. The entrepreneur behind this gadget is a great teacher. He starts with how our prehistoric ancestors sharpened stone tools. Any cook who knows how to chop should own this - it's as simple slicing an onion - and for anyone into tools you are going to love this thing.
Customer Review: knife sharpener Summary: 5 Stars
this is the best and easiest knife sharpener ever. you can sharpen anyting with it...but I use it mostly for knifes. any knife, serated, stainless, it works great on filet knives. it is quick and easy. I believe the brown stones are the key. they make getting a bad knife easy to sharpen. one you might think about taking to a grinding wheel , but in a few minutes the damn thing will be sharp enough to cut hair. best of all the knife will hold an edge after sharpened. I bought one of these 25 years ago. I still have it and it still works great. I had to buy one for the motor home. since I don't sharpen the knives in there before we go.
and once you have sharp knives you don't go back. I love this sharpener. mostly because my wife uses it too. we always have sharp knives. thanks for a great product!! thanks Tim
