Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Sodastream Fountain Jet Soda Maker Starter KitCustomer Review: great product Summary: 5 Stars
We have had the soda stream for about a year. Cylinder exchanges are easy - just place the order on-line and leave the cylinders outside. They are generally picked up/exchanged the next business day. The soda water tastes great and is so much more convenient than lugging cases of seltzer home from the store. I was concerned when I read some of the negative reviews but I have never had any problems or any second thoughts about this purchase.
My mom used to drink 2 cases per week of seltzer. OMG, the empty plastic bottles were out of control. We got her one 9 months ago and she loves it too!!! Ended up getting one for my brother for Christmas and he is as fond of it as we all are. This summer we went on vacation and took it with us. My in-laws liked it so much that they just got one too.
We haven't tried the flavors or the soda mixes, but I do enjoy a splash of cranberry juice in a glass of seltzer - yummy.
Customer Review: How to Make Fizzier-Than-Store-Bought Seltzer (Shaken, not Stirred) Summary: 5 Stars
Let me begin by saying that I was not satisfied with the first liter of seltzer I made with the Fountain Jet. Having owned home seltzer makers before, most notably the ISI soda siphon, I chilled my water to just above freezing, pumped in the carbon dioxide, and drank. The fizz far surpassed the siphon, but it couldn't compare with the seltzer I bought in the store.
Luckily, I was struck by an idea. Why not shake the fountain jet? In the siphon, the seltzer benefits immensely from being shaken (the surface area between the carbon dioxide and the water is increased). So, I picked up the entire machine, held the bottle firmly in place (a very important step otherwise you will lose all the pressure), and shook like crazy. After shaking, I pumped in more carbon dioxide, and shook again. I did this a few times. The seltzer came out fizzy enough to burn the back of my throat. Need I say more?
Customer Review: Wonderful Summary: 5 Stars
We started using the sodestream a little over a year ago.
It is fun and simple to use.
I simply place an order (directly from Sodastream) for the CO2 refill, pop the empty on the porch and within a week it is picked up and replaced with a full one. There is an earlier review that says they're difficult to find, but I live in the middle of nowhere and I have no issue with it. I have purchased an additional CO2 canister so I'm never out of soda.
The syrup flavors are really good. I don't like the cola, as it is more like RC Cola than Coke. However the lemon-lime is very much like Sierra Mist, the Ice tea mixes are really great, and the Pete's Choice is great too.
The best part is being able to have sparkling water without the sodium that you get with store bought seltzer. It also helps to not have empty bottles to lug around and return.
Customer Review: Super happy. Summary: 5 Stars
After reading many reviews I was hesitant to purchase the Sodastream Kit but I found the system to work great. You must use COLD water and you have to follow directions. At first I used cold tap water and the carbonation was not enough. I thought that I had been shipped an incorrect package but I found customer service to be very pleasant and helpful. (One of the cartridges was in the machine and one of the bottles was packed in a side corner of the box, duh, on my part.)
I do not like soda so I cannot comment on the quality of the syrups but it was nice of them to include a free samples with the kit. I hope that when the time comes to replace cartridges, I will not be disappointed.
I LOVE not hauling and returning bottles.
Customer Review: Very easy and fun to use Summary: 5 Stars
I recieved this as a Christmas present and so far I'm loving it! I think it's going to be much less expensive for seltzer water probably about the same price as buying soda. For soda some of the sodastream flavorings are not great though. I tweaked the cola flavor by adding a smaple size of the lemon-lime, a few drops of the orange and a few drops of vanilla into the concentrate bottle. It is acceptable now and tastes closer to coca cola.
The kids really do have fun with it and they've been experimenting with different flavors, they can make drinks using coolaid or shaved ice syrups.
The thing I like the most is that we can have many different flavors of soda on hand, made fresh and doesn't take up so much of our cupboard space.
