Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Sodastream Fountain Jet Soda Maker Starter Kit

Customer Review: Excellent Value, Convenient, and Earth Friendly
Summary: 5 Stars

We love it! No more lugging plastic bottles from the supermarket, then worring about PBA, and all the issues involved with mass consuming items in plastic containers (even if recycled)...it's an all-around great product. And if you don't care about any of that, consider that it only costs .40 cents per liter, it's always on hand, easy and fun to use. We use it only for club soda, and do recommend using filtered water (as in brita or under sink system) as quality is determined by the water you use, not by the fizzing action. Currently the best place to purchase carbonators is on the sodastream website, now that Boaters World is shutting down, and William-Sonoma in my area is always out of stock. Would be even more convenient if carbonators were stocked by a large national retailer such Home Depot, Lowes, TruValue maybe? Somewhere that you would normally go to on a regular basis, and thus also eliminate the need for shipping polution. Considering all it's advantages, it's still the best purchase we've made in a long time.

Customer Review: Wonderful Product
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought this unit in an effort to cut down on our soda costs. It has done that and then some. I have had no problems obtaining soda syrups or CO2 cartridges. Kohls carries some of the syrups, as does Amazon, and you can get the CO2 cartridges from William Sonoma. We use this unit every day, at least two times a day. We really like the Pink Grapefruit, which tastes like Fresca. We have also found that you can use the Crystal Light packets that are intended for flavoring personal size bottles of water. If you use two packets per liter bottle, you get the same flavor strength that you would if you do it in a personal size bottle. I have to caution anyone trying this to do it VERY slowly, though - it will fizz up all over this place. However, fizzy pink lemonade and ice tea is wonderful!!!! We cannot say enough good things about this product. We are kitchen gadget nuts at our house, and this one tops every one we have for ease of use, functionality and all time favorite!!!! Worth the initial outlay for the unit!!!

Customer Review: adjustable carbonation, endless possibilities for flavors
Summary: 5 Stars

What a wonderful product! Arthritic hands have made it impossible to use a soda syphon, but the large size of the canister and bottle and the easy screw in system for both make it simple to use the SodaStream for making soda water. Personally I do not care much for either sweet or diet soft drinks, but it you do, the sample soda flavors compare favorably to the products they mimic. I use the SodaStream to make mostly unsweetened drinks using a variety of flavors: angostura bitters, orange bitters, pure cranberry juice, lime juice, grenadine, almond extract (a spoonful of sugar + an ounce of milk for orzata), various other extracts, some fruit juices, and some drink mixes. Also good for alcoholic drinks. I experiment all the time with different flavors and mixtures. Since the fizziness level is adjustable, you can get the right level for whatever drink you are making. I like a very light amount of flavor and lots of bubbly water. No more lugging expensive plastic bottles of soda from the store.

Customer Review: Beating the system
Summary: 5 Stars

My family drinks a lot of diet sodas. We were tired of buying so many bottles and storing them, so Sodastream is a perfect solution for us (pardon the pun).
However, the first cylinder only lasted perhaps a week to ten days. We drink a LOT of soda. The next 2 exchanges were either empty or were screwed in the Sodastream improperly, as each lasted less than 24 hours. So we decided to do some investigating online.
What we discovered was you can purchase an adapter; one end screws onto the cylinder, the other to a bigger Co2 bottle. That way you can fill the cylinders yourself.
We purchased the adapter and a 20lb Co2 bottle. We are so thrilled. Even with our soda consumption, the 20lb should last at least 8 months, and only costs about $20 to fill. Also, even though the initial outlay was pricey, it will pay for itself in about 3 months.
We have now owned our Sodastream for about 3 months now and can't be happier.

Customer Review: Great Seltzer Water Machine!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love to drink Seltzer water and I was feeling really badly about all the cans I was recycling each week. And, lugging them to and from the store was a pain, besides the money I was spending. So, I went looking for a home solution.

I LOVE this machine. The CO2 cartridge lasted me from March to June and filled more than the 60 bottles that were promised. The seltzer machine is easy to use and very fast. The bubbles make a much more gentle seltzer than canned soda water; it is more like Perrier, a soft gentle Seltzer.

I don't often make soda pop for my kids but on the rare occasion that I do, it makes a nice fresh bottle of rootbeer, 7-up, whatever you want.

The only small criticism is that it is slightly awkward to get the bottles screwed on to the machine when you are filling the bottles. But, once you get the hang of it, you can do it pretty easily.

Great, great product! And green, too!!!
