Before getting Soda Stream's Fountain Jet, if I wanted a low-carb soda sweetened with Splenda instead of Aspartame, I had to travel well beyond my nearby Walgreen's and Safeway over to Lucky and pray they had Pepsi One or Diet Zero in stock. That's all. Everything else has Aspartame (which for me is Headache City, population OHGODMAKEITSTOP).
Now? Variety! Splenda-sweetened diet variants of Coke, Dr. Pepper, Fresca, Sprite, Crush, A&W, lemonade, and much, much more. No wasted time, no lugging 2-liters, far less plastic waste, I control the amount of carbonation and flavor--which is good because I find the recommended amounts of root beer and lemon-lime to be candy-sweet and a tad weak respectively.
Easy to set up and use, the unit is not bulletproof but is quite hardy so long as you follow directions and don't abuse it, and the fizz stays for at LEAST 48 hours (more than sufficient time for me to down a single liter).
If I find any drawbacks, it's the "loud buzz" that signals adequate carbonation; it's not so much a "buzz" as the sound of powerful flatulence. (Hope the neighbors don't hear!) And I hope they come up with a diet version of their cherry cola flavor soon!

After much research, we finally decided on the Sodastream Fountain Jet. A few of our friends have The Penguin, which they love, but it seems to take up the same amount of counter space, yet only makes tiny bottles of seltz. The Fountain Jet has been working great. The "buzz" alert to let you know the water is fully carbonated is pretty loud, but I think that's just the effect of trying to push as much carbonation as possible into the water. I doubt it's something that could be adjusted or changed by the manufacturer. This set came with samples of all their soda flavors, but as other reviewers have mentioned, even the non-diet flavors have Splenda. We hate fake sweet, so we haven't used those. I'll probably give them away to someone. Our machine arrived with only one bottle cap, so I contacted the company and asked for a second one. They wrote back immediately, were very apologetic, and sent me 4 caps in the color of my choice. The customer service was sort of amazing. My husband has declared the seltzer machine his favorite appliance, and it may just be the best $100 we've ever spent. We were feeling really guilty for drinking so many plastic bottles of seltzer, even though we recycled every one.Customer Review: Love it!

My husband drinks a lot of soda, so for Christmas I bought this for him. I think I actually love it more than him! I am a diet soda drinker that really loves the taste of regular soda. What I like is that all of the sodas are very low in sugar and they taste great. To someone like my hubby who drinks Mountain Dew like crazy, he notices a little aftertaste but he is ok with it and still drinks it. He really hates diet drinks so this says a lot for the product. We love the rootbeer and we add vanilla syrup to it for a little more sweetness. I really thought this would be a fun gift that we really wouldn't use all that much. Well I was mistaken because I use it just about everyday. It was a lot of fun to make Jager bombs on New Years eve. The energy flavor taste just like Redbull. People find it entertaining and I love that you can just pull it out and demonstrate. The cordless, no battery operation really appealed to me. Also for me, I have a BB&B close by so it's only 14.99 to exchange the canister for a new one. I would totally recommend it to everyone who asked. Not so much for the health and environment factors,(which are great) but it's just plain fun!Customer Review: This product has come a long way....BETTER!

I've been interested in this product for years, but due to poor access to refill co2 cartridges I've bought my selzer at stores. For Xmas this year I broke down and purchased one. Talked to the Bed, Bath & Beyond store manager - She says she has one too - was given to her for xmas and that the cartridges are returnable at the store and a new one can be purchased for $15.00 or so. This product is sold at Macy's, JC Penny's and I'm hoping more outlets as this idea become popular. MY children LOVE the soda flavors - I love that I don't have to lug around plastic bottles and cans. No more storage of these items. TASTE: 4 pumps and it is as tingley as any store bought selzer - but you must use COLD water. Make a big difference. I get my cold water from my water spout off the refrigerator. But in the winter - as cold as it gets in the NW - right out of the tap is fine and still tastes the same - EXCELLENT!
I was going to have my husband make a home made one - but this is much safer - especially with kids using it. I would like to see larger machines and cartridges someday....we'll see - Love the product!
Customer Review: FANTASTIC PRODUCT, but STAY AWAY from myGearStore

The SodaStream is a fantastic way of never running out of fizzy water, never having to carry heavy bottles back from the supermarket and never having to recycle endless plastic bottles. It is a simple device and therefore very easy to use and the CO2 cartridges are easy to acquire and replace. In our family of 4 which drinks about 25 litres a week, I suspect that we have now broken even after using it for 4 months and are now actually saving money. BUT, buy it from anywhere other than myGearStore! My experience with myGearStore is as follows: my order did not get fully completed and due to woefully inadequate customer services (mostly generic auto-responses that did not address my particular issue, despite their cutesy self-deluded self-description as "superhuman") it took one month, and over 20 emails, for the order to be filled, but I am still having a hard time finding out if the proper item was indeed sent. There are plenty of other outlets to get it from. Your experience with myGearStore might be different, but don't say you weren't warned!
