Customer Review: Perfect for my needs...
Summary: 4 Stars

When purchasing the Sharp Warm & Toasty I knew not to expect great cooking power either as a toaster oven or microwave. I'm a single guy living in a small apartment and this product does about what I expected and meets my needs. Granted, the microwave wattage isn't all powerful at 650W and the toaster oven section tops out at 400 degrees, but again, it is OK for me. I use the microwave for reheating or light cooking and the toaster oven gives me the crisping and toasting power a microwave can't. I have to say that I rarely use all the myriad of buttons. I think it is more complicated than necessary really. I generally just hit plain old "microwave" or "bake" and select my time. If you are looking for a space-saver and are not expecting to create big meals then it is a nice product. My one complaint, though many love it, is the "brushed aluminum look". To me it is a fad like the avocado and brown refrigerators of the 70's. Plus, it is a pain to keep clean looking.

Customer Review: Warm and Toasty: what else do you want?
Summary: 4 Stars

The only addendum I would add to the positive comments associated with this toaster oven are as follows. For both its size (.5 cubic foot) and its utility/versatility, this machine is commendable. No, it is not THE best appliance for any single microwave/toast/grill function, but it is reasonably good at getting all three jobs done. As well, it is compact, while being highly stylish. If you need stellar toast functioning, get a toaster oven in the line of the $280+ Franklin Chef toaster oven. If you need maximum microwaving, get a commercial grade $1000+ panasonic 1200 watt microwave. But if you need an all-in-one, space-saving, reheat food, grill some bruschetta, pop-some-popcorn with a reliable (and I might add very sexy stainless/black) micro/toaster, all for under $150 bucks, well this is your guy. It's all about reasonable cooking expectations that are commensurate with low prices. This dude delivers on both.

Customer Review: Potentially Dangerous
Summary: 4 Stars

Unfortunately I can no longer change the ratings as I'm revising the comment after having used this item for half a year. There are two important issues with this product.

Plate has weldment defect which results in sparking during microwaving. While I didn't have an accident, I can see how a paper bag of popcorn can catch fire which can spread if the unit has grease deposits inside.

The other problem is that the ancient screen has poor contrast and only subtle indication whether it is in a toasting or microwaving mode. It's a little dash at the very top of the screen hidden by the edge. The only way to see it is to bend over. I was toasting a hot dog. When it was done instead of resetting is stay in toasting mode. My wife placed sterilizer with lactation pump plastic parts and turned the know to 7 minutes. As a result it toasted $100 worth of plastic parts.

Customer Review: Attractive space saver, though slow to toast
Summary: 4 Stars

In the aesthetics department this item is top notch for anyone going for a stainless steel look in their kitchen. Brushed steel on front, with a black glass window - black metal on sides. Surprisingly, this is more important that I would have thought.

It microwaves well, though at 650W. The controls are convienent, and fast - with a single "one minute" button to save time on reheats. Seems to cook very evenly.

A nice function is the ability to turn the sound off completely - ridding your home of one source of beeps and chirps.

The oven works well for cooking. The toaster works surprisingly well, but it takes close to 3 minutes for a slice of bread. In the toast department, I'd recommend a stand-alone drop-in style toaster.

You can combine cooking and microwaving in steps (thaw then cook, not both at once).

Sharp R-55TS Warm & Toasty Toaster/Microwave

I'm glad I purchased this one. It makes wonderful evenly golden toast. It is very convenient having one appliance that acts as both, a toaster oven ( toasting bagels, reheating pizza and foods you don't like microwaved) and microwave for heating up and cooking simple items (steaming veggies, heating leftovers, making popcorn) How many of us use our microwaves for cooking whole meals? It's just what I expected out a microwave of small size and wattage. It took a little getting use to the different operation methods, but it is not difficult to use at all.
