Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Sharp R-230KW 800-Watt 4/5-Cubic-Foot Compact Microwave, White

Customer Review: Great for now
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this small countertop microwave after the Maytag one I had died because of rust in the bottom. I heated lot of water for tea, and apparently the water vapor created rust. The bottom just rusted through.

I've had it for just about two months. So far, so good.

So far, I have been very pleased with this unit. It's small and does everything I need: reheating soups and frozen foods, melting butter, boiling water to dissolve bouillon cubes for soup broth, and occasionally cooking fish and/or vegetables. I'm heating tea water now in a Sunbeam Hot Shot, which is better and faster than a microwave anyway.

If this unit breaks down, I'll revise my review. I notice that some people complain about loss of function after 7 months or a year. My Maytag ran satisfactorily for seven years. I expect the same of this unit.

Oh, by the way, I really like the feature that the light turns off when the door is opened. Sometimes I sterilize my kitchen sponge by putting it in the microwave on high for 2:15 minutes. After that, I can leave the door open to prevent rust until the microwave dries out, without unplugging it. I relly like this feature because I don't have to worry about the light burning out.

Customer Review: Sharp Carousel R-230KW 800-Watt 4/5-Cubic-Foot Microwave Oven
Summary: 5 Stars

As is well known, microwave ovens are energy-efficient, fast, low-maintenance, do not take up much space, are adaptable to many home and office areas, they are generally safe and easy to use as long as general instructions are followed. My Sharp Carousel microwave oven has proven its worth over the couple of years I have used it. The design is appealing, it is sturdy and stable, cooks and heats efficiently like it promises to. There are a good number of settings on there, but those are minor compared to its main function of merely cooking, heating, reheating, and defrosting a variety of basic. I have not noticed any problems with this Sharp microwave...one mainly ought to regularly soap wipe the interior and wash the rotating dish, etc. And for sure, this microwave oven, especially if you use microwaves regularly, delivers way much more than its conservative price!

Customer Review: Three Of Us Use This Every Day With Great Results
Summary: 5 Stars

I used to have a huge microwave which worked fine but when it finally died on me, I went to this sleeker, compact model. We've had it for four years now. We use it for everything: baking potatoes, cooking corn on the cob, making popcorn, boiling pasta, heating lean cuisines, melting cheese, thawing frozen bread and so forth. It is still going strong and I am buying more cooking equipment which one can use to cook in the microwave. I now have a pasta boiler for the microwave and it works great in this oven. We use the oven every single day and I would buy another in a flash if this broke. I got this for under fifty bucks at my warehouse club so I have gotten every penny out of my purchase.

Customer Review: Great Little Microwave
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased my Sharp R-230 800-watt microwave in June 2003, and it's still working great!! Red, black, and stainless steel are nice, but white is timeless so it's a good choice.

I primarily use this for heating things up and defrosting. Once I tried to replace it with a countertop oven but quickly put it back when I realized how much it was needed. It's quality built, just the right size, and has a control panel that's dependable and nicely laid out. All told, I feel I got a lot for my money in this little microwave.

Customer Review: Sharp's small microwave AOK so far.
Summary: 5 Stars

We have been using the Sharp R-230KW microwave for about a month now, and it fulfills its purpose for us very well. It has a smaller footprint than our previous Quasar, and is not as tall. It works just as the instructions say. I like the reheat options, where you can select the type of food, and the amount of it, so things don't scald or boil. Note that the internal volume is 11 by 11 by 7 inches, so you cannot put a dish larger than 11 inches diameter inside this model.
