Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Sharp R-216LS Compact Size 0.8 Cu-Foot Microwave, Stainless SteelCustomer Review: Fine if you don't need the "0" key... Summary: 4 Stars
Addendum to this review. After a little over a year of use, the "0" key on the keypad has become faulty. It still works, but you have to press it a few times and sometimes you get multiple zeroes. Of all the keys to go bad, this has to be the worst one! Couldn't it be the "7" key? Anyway, I was not able to change my number of stars, but I would not buy this again, and I would rate it two stars.
There is not much to say about this unit. It works, has not broken down, is sized adequately to fit in the corner of our remodeled kitchen. The steel finish is attractive and goes with most color schemes. It is solidly built. We resisted getting a microwave as long as anyone I know, but there is a lot of convenience in it. Whatever your cooking habits, it is hard to imagine that it wouldn't be useful at least for reheating. I didn't now how to rate this unit because we have never had another one to compare it to, and there is not much special about any microwave. I am giving it four stars just because it deserves more than three.
Customer Review: Much better than expected, and it does what it's supposed to do Summary: 4 Stars
We bought this because our over-the-range microwaves kept melting, and that was getting to be very expensive. This Sharp stays on a kitchen counter, and is relatively small so it fits very nicely next to our new toaster. This is our fifth microwave in 40 years. I don't know what others use their microwaves for, but 90% of the time, ours is used to heat water for tea, reheat pizza and other dishes, and maybe even reheating coffee (we're not coffee snobs and, in fact, we've never been in a Starbucks). We do not cook meals in a microwave, period. If what you want is a basic microwave, this could well be the one. However, note that the front black window is plastic, and the stainless steel is the thinnest gage made. Still, it cleans up nicely, doesn't scratch readily, and the controls are the simplest. One or two touches and you can accomplish most basic "cooking" or reheating. It's certainly well worth the price ... although $24 for shipping was a bit high.
Customer Review: stylish & functional Summary: 4 Stars
Stainless finish is nice, apparently Sharp listened to customer complaints about glue on label on front door cuz it's only applied now with 4 tiny dabs of silicone at each corner & was easy to remove with no blemishes. Works great, just like any other Sharp Carousel if you've ever owned one. Just like my old one, other than this has a timer which will be great for baking etc. Only real complaint is interior light doesn't come on when door opens, only when something is cooking & even then, is very VERY dim!!! Compared to my old Sharp, this is like a flashlight that needs new batteries! I guess I'll adjust, but was used to the GE I had that the light came on when door opened, but that model only lasted 6 months & I've had my old oven for 14 years now!! That's why I went back to Sharp!
Customer Review: Compact and works well Summary: 4 Stars
The microwave functions superbly and I have no issues with how it functions. This is definitely an appliance which is better suited for younger buyers with excellent vision and hearing.
It's beautiful and fits my limited counter space perfectly.
The are, however, two minor issues which kept me from giving this microwave a 5 star rating. The readout is black against a dark grey, and while I can make out the the numbers, anyone whose vision is compromised, like my mother's, can't see them at all.
The second issue is when the timer goes off, I can barely hear the high-pitched beep. Sometimes I can't. Thankfully my dog asociates the timer's beep with food and she alerts me.
Customer Review: Good Purchase Summary: 4 Stars
Because of limited counter/kitchen space in my new apartment, I needed a small but efficient microwave oven. I decided to shop online as I really did not have time to got to 5 or 6 stores and measure ovens. I selected the Sharp based on the dimensions. I measured my space before ordering. I was pleasantly surprised when the microwave oven arrived, as it not only is a good fit but is extremely good looking, and does the job just fine. I basically use a microwave to defrost, heat leftovers, and soften ice cream. This oven does all of that with ample speed and power. It is nicer looking than anything I saw in Target, Costco, etc. If you want a small, easy to use, and attractive oven this one is for you.
