Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Sharp R-216LS Compact Size 0.8 Cu-Foot Microwave, Stainless SteelCustomer Review: Don't mind the naysayers, initial usage indicates this thing is excellent. Summary: 5 Stars
Not sure why there are a lot of negative reviews for this microwave, I've had it for a couple of weeks now and could not be happier with its performance. Looks good, has ample internal dimensions, and performs almost as consistent as the 1100-watt microwave I had in my previous apartment. I only need to add an additional 30 seconds or so to the stated cook times on whatever product packaging I'm working with to account for the lower wattage. To address some of the negative comments I read about this before purchasing-
1. Someone mentioned that there was no sub 1-minute cook option (ie 30 seconds). This is false, you can enter whatever cook time you please.
2. Illuminated LCD clock- its a microwave for crying out loud, not a clock. If you want an illuminated LCD clock, buy a clock. I bought this to warm up food, not to act as a clock.
3. Noise- Unnoticeable for the most part, it operates quieter or as quiet as any other microwave I've used in the last 20 years.
It's hard to find any faults with this really. I have it set up on a countertop and if I had to name any faults, the only thing I can think of is that the unit may slide slightly on the countertop when I press the open button, because it is not resting on a back-panel. Solution to this? Just place your fingers over the top with one hand while you open it with the other. Hardly a fault even worth mentioning but that is the only thing that comes to mind when I think about it. I will update over time if I experience any issues but for the time being I would give this microwave my full recommendation.
Customer Review: A little dynamo Summary: 5 Stars
I loved this little dynamo so much I bought another one for a future back up.
It has a lot of different options for microwaving food. They seem to work great.
It's not fancy, it is louder than a full size, and there is no light except when its running and the lighting is poor at best. It is very small and is best for warming up food and liquids not cooking something from scratch. But in real life that's all I did with my big microwaves of the past.
I had a custom kitchen put in and the area in the cabinet to hold the microwave was based on the dimensions for this size model. That's why for the price of $79.00 it was worth buying a backup for the hopefully not to distant future when this one fails for the last time.
I would recommend this little guy to everyone, if what you need is an appliance that looks good, is small, and you only use it to heat up things.
Customer Review: Full power and features in a small attractive package. Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this microwave for about a month now and I am extremely satisfied with both it's performance, features, and sleek design. This is probably the 5th microwave I have owned in 20 years, and I have to say it cooks more evenly and to the second than any other machine I have ever used. What I mean by "to the second" is that if a microwave dinner say, "4 1/2 - 5 minutes, let rest 2 minutes when done" and you choose the higher number (5 minutes) and hit the timer for 2 minutes when it's done - perfection (as a microwave meal can be, of course).
It also has a large number of programming features that would benefit the major meal cooking multi-tasker.
With an easy to clean black plastic door and keypad, and brushed stainless top and bottom accents, it is also a very attractive addition to any kitchen.
Customer Review: Replacement Microwave Summary: 5 Stars
After the original microwave we got when we bought our house (in 1995) finally packed in, this is with what we replaced it. At first I was unsure, as I was VERY used to the old machine-knew its timing for EVERYTHING, knew the key sequence, etc.
But, now that I have had this one for a little while, I realize it is just as good. The only thing is that each and every finger print shows on the stainless, especially on the door opening button. But it has all the features of the previous one, plus a few more. Even though it is a little smaller and less powerful than the old one, it works fine. I only use it for light duty, no cook times longer than the 8 minutes it takes to cook a butternut squash to perfection.
Customer Review: love this thing! Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this microwave for several months now, about 5, and we really LOVE it. It is very easy to keep clean. Cooks baked potatoes like nobody's business, which really supprised me, and reheats really well. Looks very nice and is stainless all around. Easy to get into the habit of entering the cook time before we shut the door, or just press enter for one minute cooking. So very happy with this purchase. No worries at all. :)
