Customer Review: Grandma's Aebleskiver Heirloom....

My Grandparents came to the UNITED STATES of AMERICA from DENMARK (along with many of her Danish recipes and cookware). What I remember most growing up -my Grandmother's Aebleskiver delights. We have a picture of my brother and myself sitting on the kitchen table licking the mixing spoons while Grandma was cooking the Aebleskiver. Watching Grandma Helga bake and cook was always a special occassion for all of us kiddos. While growing up and taking my friends to my Grandmother's house because you never knew just exactly what she was going too whip up for us -but we were sure to indulge our senses in sheer delight of her vast tasty treats.
I was concerned when ordering this skillet if it would be just a replica and not hold in the flavor or make what I remember the tasty treats to be. My Aunt has my Grandmother's Aebleskiver skillet and she sent me the recipe so I could try my new skillet out.
The treats were pretty good. Either I can't make them as well as my Grandmother (which is probably the case -can any of us bake as well as our Grandma's?) or the skillet needs to cure a whole lot more ....ahhhh, but that means more delicacies to enjoy. Practice makes Grandma's perfect, yes? At any rate -the pan seems to work well, didn't stick and is as described on the site.
The skillet does look different than Grandma's ...albeit it was from many, many years ago and from another country -so perhaps that's why. However, the pan should become well used and perhaps my grandchildren will grow to have a fondness of their Grandma's Aebleskiver and fight over who gets the skillet. Skillets only get better with use! This one is sure to become a favorite to be sure... and a future Grandma's Aebleskiver heirloom.
As far as this skillet -it is exactly as it shows in the picture and description. I couldn't ask for anything more (but my Grandma's skillet from my Aunt) *smirks*
The little balls of cakes came out browned and did not stick and I will probably be regretting getting all sentimental because I'm going to have to find a way to lose all the weight I am sure to gain.
Mmmmm -if you have not had Aebleskiver and you think it is just little balled pancakes so you can eat a regular pancake anytime -think again. These are special and create a whole different texture and make sure you have a true DANISH recipe to fully devour the delicious uniqueness these treats offer that no other can.
I highly recommend this skillet.

Use pancake mix and fill the round cups to the top of the cup, wait for them to brown on the one side and then flip them over to cook the other side.
