I got these salt and pepper shakers because my son and his wife have ants. I also have had the problem in the past. The ants will get into the salt and pepper shakers and you have to empty it out, clean it out, and refill it. We wanted some with a lid. These work great. They are easy to fill and use. It is so easy a child can use them without trouble. I would recommend these for everyone who has a bug problem and needs to keep the salt and pepper clean.Customer Review: Better as a thrift store find.

I purchased these Salt & Pepper shakers with the idea of making shakers for cinnamon sugar and spice blends to use in cooking. However, they really are much too small for either purpose. As a cinnamon-sugar shaker, for example, I end having to refill them more than once a week.
In addition, if any bits of spices get along the lid, it won't seal tightly and can spill when knocked over or the mixture can clump up if moisture gets inside. It might be just fine for a little breakfast nook table, but not moderate to heavy usage.
I am usually a fan of Rubbermaid's durablity and simplicity, but this was a bit of a dud. Too small and not tightly enough sealed for my taste.

Opened and closed the caps a few times and the salt began to leak, second Rubbermaid product that the cap was a problem. Too expensive to purchase this way, bought several products to make it worth my while, but they were shipped separately, posted to my checking account separately and took a long time to arrive. Not worth it.
