Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Allerpet Grooming Emollient, C for Cats, 12 ozCustomer Review: Works well, back for more Summary: 5 Stars
My boyfriend has a severe allergy to my cat, but then again she's also particularly allergenic cat, more than most others. Anyone with just a mild cat allergy tends to break out in hives around her.
Allerpet seems to work for at least the first day after applying it to her coat. My boyfriend's been fine around her--no need for his usual Claritin. But by the next day, he starts to feel allergic again and needs his Claritin. So, I've been applying Allerpet every other day, and he's been taking his medication every day in between.
I can't say that it's the product that doesn't work too well after just one day--it could just be my mangy cat.
UPDATED 07/21/2010:
I've been using this on my cat for a year and a half now, and I'm buying more today. After a few weeks of using this stuff, and getting used to applying it on my cat, my "severely allergic boyfriend," as well as other friends with allergies, don't need to take their Claritin at all around her. Each bottle lasted me almost 6 months, so it's a good deal, too. I've been applying it about once per 4-5 days. After about 5 days, the boyfriend's allergies start to kick in again, but this product has worked out well for us. Definitely stocking up on this stuff!!!
Customer Review: works great Summary: 5 Stars
My roommate is allergic to cats, and so it was with much reservations that I adopted a stray kitten. At first the roommate seemed fine, but as the kitten grew older and started grooming, the roommate's symptoms started flaring up. After trying various air filters and kitten baths with little effect, I researched the root cause of allergies, and found this product. It's an odorless and non-toxic solution that deactivates the protein that causes allergies.
The instructions suggest applying the product to a towel and wiping down kitty's fur, but I suggest skipping the towel completely. Instead, dampen your hands with about a half-teaspoon of solution and apply it to the fur directly. Clean any loose hairs off your hands and repeat until the cat is either slightly damp or thoroughly annoyed, whichever comes first. I did it this way because she dislikes towels (prob a residual effect from the baths); another plus is less product is also wasted.
I'm happy to report that the product definitely works as advertised. After several applications, the roommate's symptoms are completely gone. The roommate's happy, kitty is indifferent, and I'm happy that I won't need to subsidize a prescription of claritin.
Customer Review: I've been using Allerpet C for 2 years... Summary: 5 Stars
I've had my beautiful cat for 9 years... so imagine how nervous I was over 2 years ago when I was suddenly living in the same house with someone who turned out to be fiercely allergic to her... I was frantic. I had suggestions here and there and was washing her often (someone even told me that they use Selsun Blue on their cat, yikes!) ... well, skeptical or not, I didn't have a choice. Skeptical or not, most people in my world, including family, are allergic to my cat. Even I have an allergic reaction to her (but was willing to deal with it to keep her near--who needs to smell?)...
Allerpet C used to be weekly for us... now it's every time she goes outside since she picks up even more allergens when she plays... if she's cooped up inside, she will get washed every 3 days or so becuase she grooms a LOT and is very thick-maned... in any case, we're all happy--she doesn't hate this like she hates baths, and it equals us getting to bump heads with our best friend. For that, it's well worth the investment. Also means I can keep having "mutts" instead of forking over the money for designer breeds that we don't need any more of (until the shelters lose their clientele, at least).
Customer Review: Thank you Allerpet! Summary: 5 Stars
Allerpet is amazing! My 3 year old has been pining for a kitten ever since he could speak, and 2 months ago we finally got him one---only to have his eyes swell shut in allergic reaction within an hour of touching the cat. We were all devastated, thinking we would have to get rid of the sweet little kitten, when a friend sent me a link to this very page of reviews. I got some Allerpet right away, and my son's reactions stopped. We have been treating the kitten once a week with Allerpet and have not had a single problem with allergies. She even sleeps on the bed with him now, with not a single problem. It's hard to believe that a simple, affordable, easy-to-use product could make your life *this* much easier, but it is so. When you read these reviews saying how great it is, you might be a little bit skeptical. I know I was. But every thing the reviews say is 100% true. Allerpet really does work!
Customer Review: IT WORKS! IT REALLY WORKS! Summary: 5 Stars
I ended up being surrogate mom to three kittens about 4 days old when I found them. We ended up keeping one even though my husband is extremely allergic to cats! It was his idea! So there began my search for SOMETHING that would help! I came across allerpet and for the price it was worth a try! I couldn't believe it when after using it on our kitty she slept in the bed with us and my husband did not not sneeze once! I used it one her once a day for the first 3 days and after that I kind of forgot about it cause my husband was for the most part fine! After about 3 weeks he mentioned that I better put that "stuff" on her again cause he could tell she was getting to him. So I did and once again he was fine! So that told me it really does work, its wasn't just coincidence. Sometimes he can still feel his allergies a bit, but compared to the way he was before, its is a miracle to us!
