Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Ronco ST4000WHGEN Showtime Standard Rotisserie and Barbeque Oven with Bonus Accessory Kit, WhiteCustomer Review: A solid purchase for anyone Summary: 5 Stars
In 2000, I went through an unexpected divorce. During the separation, I asked the ex if I could have this machine, because my culinary skills were, shall we say, very limited. We had received it several years before as a Christmas gift from my mom, but had never really used it.
People, it prevented me from having to subsist on take out and frozen pizza! When I had weekends with my daughter, she was blown away by the dishes I was able to prepare.
Since then, I have learned a bit about cooking, but I still use the rotisserie several times a month. Living alone, I can't justify buying a whole turkey. But a turkey breast, properly seasoned, will come out of the machine tasting as if a master chef had prepared it. Believe me, good quality frozen veggies are delicious if the steaming tray is used. Using the basket, well seasoned chicken pieces cook in an hour, and all the marketing propoganda heard on the infommercial turns out to be true. Marinated leg of lamb? I'm making myself hungry, just typing this review! There have been family get-togethers at my sister's house where we have had both hers and my rotisserie going full blast.
It isn't expensive. It isn't high tech. It isn't terribly sophisticated. But...it works, very reliably. Anyone will be able to get excellent results with it in a short amount of time.
Very rarely, you get more than what you paid for. If you are "on the fence," trying to decide whether or not to purchase, go ahead and jump; you won't be sorry.
Customer Review: Love at first bite! Summary: 5 Stars
I absolutely love my Ronco Showtime Rotisserie Oven. Now that I have it, I wonder how I ever cooked without it.
I am very picky about my kitchen appliances being easy to use and easy to clean! There is no point in having a delicious dinner if I have to spend hours cleaning up a mess afterward. I must say, this oven could not be any easier to clean. The pieces & accessories are all dishwasher safe.
The first night I used it, I cooked a chicken that was just under 5 pounds. It took exactly as long as the instructions stated it would for the internal temperature of the chicken to reach 180 degrees. The thermometer is included. The elastic food ties are ingenious! No more strings cutting into your fingers as you fight to get them around the chicken.
I could not believe how good this chicken was. I didn't do anything special to it. I only used salt, pepper, and garlic powder on the outside of the chicken. Then, I put it on the rotisserie, set the timer, and watched it spin around in amazement. Every single bite of this chicken was juicy! My daughter and I ate it for three days, and even when it was warmed in the microwave, it was still tender and juicy.
I highly recommend this item to anyone who cooks several meals a week. It does a lot more than just rotisserie chicken! The kabobs we made in it were just as delicious as the chicken.
Customer Review: Half-pound hamburgers, anyone? Summary: 5 Stars
Yes, I know, it's touted as a healthy way to cook your favorite lean proteins, but now and then, don't you just wanna throw caution to the winds and perhaps once every month or two indulge your inner carnivore? When we received one of these for Christmas, the very first thing we prepared were the juiciest and most perfectly cooked half-pound hamburgers this side of those boutique burger chains.
The basket accessory easily holds a quartet of half-pounders and even imparts some convincing grill marks! Just let 'em spin for 30 minutes with the heat on and follow it with a 10-minute heat-off tumble. Forty minutes seems like a long time to wait for a burger, but believe me, you won't regret it. You can pass the time by whipping up some Santa Fe spread (1 tsp. of chili powder to 1 cup of mayonnaise; add a few drops of Tabasco if you like a little back-of-the-throat tingle) and slicing some pepper Jack cheese and a big juicy onion while the buns toast. The cooking method that brings out the best flavor in poultry, pork and cuts of beef does the same thing for big brawny burgers without overcooking the outside before the center is done.
It's heaven on a bun. . . without the sinful price.
Customer Review: Easy, Easy! Summary: 5 Stars
I have wanted one of these ever since my mother got one a few years back, but wanted to wait until I had a home. I am an appliance nut and have so many machines, I cant keep track of them. However, this is the one that I use the most already. I recieved 8 kabobs rods which I used the first day and just like Ron says "Set it and forget it!". Since then I have cooked many more meals and I love it because I do not have to stand at the stove cooking-I can just through my meat into the rotisserie, and spend time with my family. I wasnt impressed by was the vegetable cooker---My veggies were still frozen. Perhaps I didnt give them enough time to cook, but I havent tried it since. I also was a bit disappointed with the flavor injectors. The larger one broke the first time I used it, and the smaller one gets clogged like any other injector because the needle is too small. However, none of these affect the performance of the rotisserie itself, and so I still give it 5 stars. For cooks and non-cooks, its a great addition to any kitchen!
Customer Review: Real food Summary: 5 Stars
Have the Standard Showtime, and have used it for ten years. I have cooked the best turkey I ever made on it, and do chicken twice a week. First time I tasted an organic chicken from it, it was like food I ate when I was a kid. Could not get enough of it! Now I'm faced with having to replace it - get the same, or the compact? Kids have moved out. I feel lost without it. Oven roasted just is not the same. Have also used the basket for beef, and salmon. I have not used the top vege warmer except to put plants on when not cooking. Used the glove until it got a hole, and now use a silicone hot pad to take off the spit, with a fork's help. I have not had to salt the chicken or use any spices - have wondered if chicken gets salt in their food, or injected. I used to carefully handwash each part, but now just stick them in the diswasher. I looked at a toaster oven with a rotisserie, but they only do small chickens, not the 5 pounders. It is so good to get some real food!
